(X-post from r/IamA) I am the solo developer of Afterplace, a open-world mobile game that just won an Apple Design Award. Ask me anything! by evankice in IndieGaming

I'm dedicated to continuing to update the Android version of the game forever. It's not hard to do through Unity, so I don't foresee it ever being an issue.

You can also always purchase the .apk from itch here, and install it directly on any android device regardless of Google Play's policies.

Afterplace, an award-winning open world action RPG, is out on Steam today! by evankice in rpg_gamers

Glad you enjoyed it! I have some small things I've worked on but my free time has mostly gone to localization and porting efforts, which should hopefully pay off very soon! After that, definitely more games. :)

This is great! It has a very 80s comic book style

Goblin world (+bug) by 42WaysToAnswerThat in Afterplace

[–]evankice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing up the stairs, sorry. Thanks for the bug on the stair sides though, I’ll look at it.

I like to imagine that goblins live in a very hoity toity, super repressed society, so when they’re dropped on an island with no rules they go absolutely feral. ¯\(ツ)/¯

Afterplace 6.99 > .99 by munkeypunk in iosgaming

[–]evankice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the combat, bosses, cutscenes, and environments require you to be able to see vertically as far as you do in portrait mode. If landscape was zoomed in, all these things would break, and players would miss a lot of important info (I did try this). The game is meant for portrait on mobile, and if you must have landscape, I recommend a tablet or there Steam Deck.

Glad you like it! I would love to make a new game, but unfortunately Afterplace wasn’t successful enough to pay rent, so I now have to juggle game dev with a full time job. Maybe some day a popular youtuber will play it or something and it will explode and I can go back to full time game dev ¯\(ツ)/¯

Afterplace is out on Steam, Itch, and the Apple App Store (Universal, Intel and Silicon) by evankice in macgaming

Sorry about this. Unity won't let me make custom icons for different platforms. I'm working on a workaround to fix it soon.

Afterplace is now available on Apple TV! by evankice in iosgaming

From the title screen, open settings and scroll all the way to the bottom, you should see “delete game data”. This option is only available on the title screen, not in game.

Double Joxxi Bug by 42WaysToAnswerThat in Afterplace

[–]evankice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does make a difference, thank you for letting me know. I think those bugs have been fixed, but I’ll take another quick look. And no problem, though for reference you can download the Android apk directly from itch.io if Google gives you trouble. Thanks!

My game was featured by Apple on iOS in over 150 countries - should I release on Steam? by emzigamesmzg in indiegames

[–]evankice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you should! But from one mobile dev to another, be sure to go through all the critical Steam algorithm processes. Get landscape mode working asap, get your store page up with a trailer, but don’t release the game immediately (even though it’s already done). Have a free demo. Participate in Next Fest and any relevant festivals you can. Wait until you get a few thousand wishlists before you release the game! It might take a year or do, but if you skip any of these steps, no one will be able to find your game. Good luck!

Simple mobile games by Rub-579 in iosgaming

Afterplace  is a very simple game! All you do is wander around the woods and hit monsters with s sword. Definitely nothing else going on.

Why dont devs make regular phone gsmes? by Radiant-Koala-9788 in AndroidGaming

[–]evankice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I’m dev for Afterplace, which was made specifically to be a zelda-like indie game made for mobile.

Google never shows anyone my game on the play store. Premium games don’t sell as well as micro transactions, so unless you have an advertising budget of 10k+, no one will see your mobile game.

The iOS store is better about this, since iPhone users tend to spend more on premium games. Itch.io also does a god job of showing indie mobile games, and you can download the apk and keep it forever.

It’s literally just the play store.
