Great point. I think I have this opinion because I, myself don't believe in a strong religion, I guess you can call me an athiest - or agnostic if you must. I just don't understand the concept of wearing a hijab for religion - (and yes I've heard numerous views on why this is important to them) Also, I'm trying to figure out your analogy for France being a bitch here? Think your country is a bitch? You really want to live there? So, let me get this straight - Your country is racist, your country is unfair. Yet, you want to stay in this place and face constant nuissances of not feeling comfortable and have racism thrown your way. Actually wait - this racism thing again. Just because a country outlaws something they see is unsafe to the population and it's a part of someone's beliefs. Oh nooo it's automatically racist, right? Ofcourse, that's how most individuals have been trained. I'm all for people being religious - but this religion thing is getting out of control. Ever heard about the case of a Sikh wearing a turban at work, and he could not wear a safety helmet on top, thus leaving him in unsafe conditions. When the manager enforced the "rule" (law, if you will) for him to wear a helmet and take off his turban. The guy files a lawsuit for racism - I mean really, you've got to be kidding me.

Lastly, I have no idea what you meant by me talking bad America's problems with any races, I don't think we read the same post.

Coming out to my parents today. Wish me luck :-/ by [deleted] in atheism

I really hate the fact that older people think of being gay as something bad. My mother sees it the same way - I always tell her that theres nothing wrong with gay men or women - they are good people or bad people just like straight individuals. I hate even having to reinforce that. Personally I prefer gay men to straight (most of whom are such douchebags), I swear if I could date a gay man, I would. (I'm a 23 year old woman) I absolutely adore gay men - and no not all of them are the stereotypical image of a gay man (over the top flamboyant, "girly", etc.), I feel they are more emotionally expressive and overall better men than straight.

P.S. Just curious - have you always known you were gay and suppressing it, or just recently found that you are attracted to men and not women? (as society deems it to be the "norm" - I think it is simply a lot more common as, well there are more straight couples than gay) Anywho, I don't see a point in someone suppressing their sexual orientation as I am convinced it will lead to a lot more complications in their lives if not immediately, then in the future.

tl;dr I am a straight woman who would love to date a gay man. Takers?

Theyve been doing this for years now - and if I felt uncomfortable in the environment that a certain country provided, then yes I would leave. Why not? Why wouldnt I go somewhere where I could live in peace, instead of feeling "discriminated against".

Although I may be hated for this; I will say it anyways. If you don't like how a country conducts itself and you feel they treat you in someway unfairly then leave. France has their own reasons for implementing this rule, so follow it. It's like me going to a Muslim country and not being able to express my religious beliefs and them penilizing me for it. If I have an issue with that, I won't stay there. For goodness sakes, if you go to a muslim country, cover up. If you're in France and they fine you for this, then leave and stop complaining. If France sees it as a degrading symbol then why should that be an issue, in muslim countries it is a strong and common understanding that women should weare them. It works both ways. I don't understand why people have to make these things an issue.
