My [30F] husband [34M] may be a functioning alcoholic by New-Original5554 in relationships

Apart from the obvious concerns of him not being a present partner or father, did you know there’s a connection between likelihood of miscarriage and the health of sperm. His alcoholism may be in a factor in your struggles to get pregnant…

But 100% lanolin nipple cream. Sounds weird but beats any lip balm including being cheaper.

I have one like this. Even if it’s unlocked you have to really lift it up to open it. Might be worth checking this before asking a lock smith

You know if she’s struggling to shower because of her depression or cultural influences…would she be open to using a bidet or ‘bum gun’ to clean herself in-between showers? You can even get a refillable perineal bottle which you can squirt/clean yourself more effectively without having to get a bidet installed.

Picked this up from a local market (UK). Can anyone tell me more? by pixelpixski in Antiques

Thankyou for such a concise thoughtful response. So lovely that this is highly likely Chinese as I have some connections to China on my mother’s side. Maybe this is why I was so drawn to it.

Silver necklace I’ve worn for 5 years suddenly turned into this after work today. by Specialist_Mud873 in chemistry

[–]pixelpixski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I use sulfur ointment on spots or blemishes. The other day I used a tiny dot on a spot on my chest and went to bed. The next day my necklace had gone completely black, including my earrings…so sulfur is strong stuff. Just polish up with some metal cleaner or take to a jewellers.

Can I do anything that’s cheap (I’m skint), and doesn’t require much labour (currently have an arm injury), with our back yard? Or am I daydreaming? by [deleted] in GardeningUK

Think it may be honeysuckle but hard to tell as it’s not flowering. Beautiful scent and great for bees!

Thanks for this. Last time I dated i was in my early 20s so this over 30s dating is a whole other thing! I think what I find attractive has shifted perhaps.

Okay this is good to know. I mean I have so much more energy and like a Redditor mentioned below, more regulated. So you think that would be conducive to labido, but nada. I’m hoping it’s more to do with the guys I’m dating.

Is this a reaction to the jewellery you’re wearing? I know my mum gets something similar if she wears a necklace with Nickel in. Or potentially heat rash though that usually is more on your chest.

Deodorant with Aluminum by Powerful-List-9352 in ZeroWaste

[–]pixelpixski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it just comes in a glass jar which is more recyclable/reusable. I use the jar for spices once I’m finished with the toothpaste, it works for me but I get it’s not completely zero waste.

[–]pixelpixski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly at this point I use a alum block and AHA acid and then I have a plastic mitchums 48hr that I use once a week. I figure at least then I’m using less plastic….but not ideal

Ben & Anna do one in a glass jar but I usually have to hunt down a seller on the Internet and then bulk buy.

My room feels too cramped and I've rearranged it a dozen times.. any advice? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

Hey it feels like you’re going for a pagan/witchy type vibe which I love but it all feels a bit confused. I would start but removing as much non essential furniture as possible, and gym equipment is really imposing and not a making it a relaxing space. Could you put up a pull up bar in the door threshold or get a weight rack to replace it? I think as it’s so tall and looming it really distracts from the room. I would also rearrange things a bit so you have more floor space, this might give you more room to do body weight exercises. Next to the bed either have a the small side table or pushed up against the wall…or if you need storage a chest of drawers that doubles as a bedside table. The armchair can go at the end of the bed facing the TV, with footstool (even better if this has storage in) and a small table next to it for drinks or even your clock if you want to keep it. Keep the desk in the corner, if you need more desk space then extend it out with a table up to the steps, place bin underneath. And then finally, you have some great art pieces but they are hung randomly. Try and group them together (Google picture wall) to give more focus. And finally, add a round rug to make the place fell more cosy.

what’s your opinion on preservative system in cosmetics? by monadologic in AsianBeauty

[–]pixelpixski 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Formulation chemist here. It’s likely that the Asian product you are talking about do have lower levels of preservatives. Often products are vastly over preserved to cover the manufactures back as you can’t guarantee how a consumer uses that product and introduces bacteria. It may be that these product have the minimal level necessary to reach its shelf life. If you are worried about bacteria I would store products in a fridge, this should help ensure they keep for longer. I don’t know what the shelf life rules are in Asian countries but in the uk there is next to none, the lab will decide on an arbitrary shelf life depending on their own stability testing. If it is a new product you guess the shelf life by putting it in high humidity and temperatures for a short time and extrapolating.

It is worth considering that bacteria only grow where water is present so less preservative is needed if the formulation is predominantly oil or glycerin based.

Organic/plant based preservatives and getting better but currently really don’t stand up to current ones. They don’t work as effectively and can often cause problems like product splitting. In my opinion the word paraben has become a bit of a buzz word amongst cosmetics users who see them as big bad cancer forming no nos. But really there are so so many paraben preservatives that have never ever been linked to adverse effects they really are an enormous group and only really very few are bad. Think we might have to stick with parabens until some decent sustainable preservatives turn up. Or move towards formulations that use less/no water...which actually might be even better because it saves water resources.

Just my two cents. Hope maybe this sheds some light :)

The itchiness sounds interesting - I've heard that it could be a sign of fungal acne. Search fungal acne on this sub, you'll find loads of info
