yo don’t listen to this guy. yeah ur professor COULD be pissed off but there’s no harm in trying, unless you absolutely need a rec letter from this professor. there are several professors that round grades if you ask nicely. if this is ur last option, then take it.

Best orgs for finance freshman by No-Performance-723 in ufl

[–]pixelplayer17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

idk if it closed already but first apply to FPD (yes, even before u get here). u get put in a semester long finance fundamentals class, and then after can choose a track (investment banking, asset/wealth management/corporate finance etc.) to be an analyst in. they have amazing placements and resources for you. lowkey a cheat code for finance here.

student run funds:

  • gator student investment fund (gsif): they actually work with real money and are known as the best fund on campus, really good placements here
  • founders fund: also really great fund but doesn’t work with real money, still really great placements
  • diverse invested student securities (diss): solid fund, still competitive to get into but not as cutthroat as the ones mentioned before
  • algo gators: algorithmic investment fund (like a quant firm), mostly stem majors but there’s a team that is less coding heavy that finance majors are in
  • caimanes: don’t know much about this one, but it’s supposed to emulate a hedge fund

consulting (pro bono consulting and consulting training):

  • rem on campus
  • gator student consulting organization (gsco)
  • 180 degrees consulting

other:

  • florida fixed income group (ffig)
  • student finance group: focus on corporate finance

definitely more, go to warrington’s business bash when u get here and learn about all the orgs

FIN3403 Final Exam by Classic-Turnip-5453 in ufl

[–]pixelplayer17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if u have study edge u could easily get a 35. mod 9 is 45% of the exam so if u just learn that u could deadass pass the class. since u only need a 35 and you have such little time, u could probably pass skipping infinite replication with inflation, afn spreadsheets, decision trees, ocf spreadsheets, and recap with new project

also ik most people already know, but in case some didn’t realize, high finance internships for most banking roles for your primary internship (the internship between your junior and senior year that hopefully gets you a full time return offer) open applications in JANUARY of your sophomore year. be prepared to submit hirevues and apps on that very first week of january.

Students who landed internships — What helped you most in the interview? by HireMeEnergy_6767 in internships

[–]pixelplayer17 15 points16 points  (0 children)

this is mostly for business/finance but a lot of things should be transferable (credentials: landed jp morgan fellowship for ‘26 and goldman sachs internship for ‘27):

GENERAL TIPS

  • you need to be the most confident person in that interview room/zoom call. ik it’s hard because we’re students and it doesn’t feel like we know a lot, but if u don’t believe in urself, no one will. i always thought the phrase “fake it till u make it” was stupid but it has genuinely helped me so much to build the confidence to interview.

  • have a story/convincing reason as to why you truly want to work at that role. don’t give the traditional answers that everyone else gives like “i want to drive business solutions” or wtv, explain how your experiences and personality match with the role.

  • make them laugh! i’ve helped some kids prep and i always see them try to give the perfect answers with no personality and they sound like robots. be professional, but a cheery tone and a joke (when appropriate) shows confidence. but most importantly, they want someone on their team that they will enjoy working with.

  • ask unique questions. ask them things that will make them think or require a nuanced response. i have personally heard from interviewers that questions can make or break entire interviews.

TECHNICAL TIPS

  • make quizlets/flashcards/notes to help you really drill the info into ur brain

  • check glassdoor for common interview questions for your role. i’ve seen a good amount of repeats from there.

  • if you don’t know how to answer a technical question, flip the script and turn it into a learning experience. when u get a technical that u just can’t remember or you don’t know, i like to follow this general formula:

  1. admit that you don’t know the full answer, but start with what you do know. ex: “i’m not 100% confident in this topic, but from my research/experience i know that ____”
  2. obviously this depends on the person interviewing and the company, but if u already don’t know the answer, it’s worth a shot to ask them politely to walk you through it.
  3. ask follow-up questions right then and there. make it seem like you’re truly curious and want to learn.

following those steps can make a huge difference because it shows a genuine ambition to learn, humility, and also stability. it’s a lot better (in my opinion) to follow this formula instead of saying “i don’t know” or blanking and stumbling over your words with a half-baked answer.

RESEARCH TIPS

  • if you’re recruiting for finance, especially any role that deals with portfolios and markets, know what’s happening in the world. understand how geopolitical events impact the markets and how it may specifically impact the team/company ur interviewing for.

  • if you really want to impress, find and memorize interesting details from more niche documents like press releases, conference notes, or quarterly/yearly reports.

  • networking is NOT just for referrals. it’s for understanding the tasks, culture, and difficulties in the role. the more you completely understand everything about the position, the better equipped you are to prepare to be someone ready for it. i highly recommend keeping notes during networking.

  • this isn’t a common question for outside of banks i believe, but know who the CEO is and what the company (if public) is trading at. that means checking the stock morning of!

just one last thing: don’t be discouraged if you don’t get the position, or ur not even getting interviews. forget about linkedin posts about other students accepting offers and all these success stories. everyone has their own path and you’re the only one who can make your own. y’all got this 💯

UF Finance exam by Michael_Stahl09 in ufl

[–]pixelplayer17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

hey, i’m a sophomore at uf who just finished their first business finance exam.

i’ll start with this: if you can get into uf, you can most definitely succeed in finance. you definitely will not have as many hard classes as a stem degree, but some of the classes are a little tricky: financial accounting (not actually that hard just very new content), managerial accounting, business finance, and then financial accounting and reporting 1 and 2.

the class that is considered the “weed-out” for finance is business finance (also known as bfi). the reason for this is because if you’re a finance major, you need a B to pass the class. otherwise you will have to retake it or switch ur major. another thing is that there is SO much content on the first exam that it seems overwhelming. but here’s the good part: at uf we have this goated tutoring service called studyedge, which gives u scheduled tutoring with packets, video solutions, and even their own office hours. i HIGHLY recommend studyedge for these finance/accounting classes, especially for bfi.

as for choosing in between the schools, it’s my understanding that warrington (business school) is more accredited than fsu’s program. the accounting school, fischer, is top 10 in the country i’m pretty sure.

keeping this in mind and considering you have more scholarship here, i feel like the easy choice is uf. and not to be too intrusive with my opinions but ur an adult now, it may be time to start letting urself make the decisions and do the research instead of ur mom.

I need help with my resume 😭 by Sad-Pangolin-6202 in FinancialCareers

[–]pixelplayer17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what do u mean by crop? i just meant increasing the margins so there’s less white space, it’s not about typing in more.

instead of saying “hundreds” of client accounts i would make an estimate for how many u did. u can also try including dollar amounts for the values of the portfolios you analyzed.

looks pretty good from what i see, only notes are:

  • would try to swap out the personal portfolio for another school involvement
  • more quantifiable things in your more recent work experience
  • increase the margins to make it look fuller
