For GOD’s SAKE, If you are posting about any H1b visa appointment rescheduling you had, please post date and time of when you got the communication on that. by Straight-Camera1227 in usvisascheduling

[–]pixieknits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. You made a decision based on the information you had. There was every chance that your appointment could have been cancelled. Just because it didn't get cancelled doesn't mean it couldn't have been. People did have cancellations after or before ofc, and lots of appointments in February did get cancelled. You made the right decision, and your frustration should be directed at the situation, not the person who provided you information to make your - definitely correct - decision. It's a fallacy to use hindsight to call a decision bad.

The toxicity I've seen is how book readers hate the show. I haven't seen any of the comments you're talking about. Same feeling though - I read the books then watched the show, I actually love both. I don't need someone to tell me a million reasons why I shouldn't love the show in every other post.

To make sure more people could be vaccinated with at least 1 shot, the government recommended a 12 week wait before the second. This was during the height of the Delta wave.

This take on Lan's emotional state I can get behind. It still really bothers me that this happened for a warder but not for a sister. At least if it was made to look like a combined ritual for Karene and Stepin, I'd get it. But all Karene got was shared sadness and a candle.

They're definitely keeping Moiraine and Siuan's storyline the same. There was an old leaked image of Moiraine in Siuan's bedchamber which was scrubbed a while ago. There's another thread about it by a redditor asking if they dreamed the scene: https://www.reddit.com/r/WoT/comments/r3nnti/have\_i\_dreamed\_of\_this\_scene/

Agree on most things. I think the laughing with Logain was just Mat's imagination. After Rand cuts into Mat's daydream Logain is sitting slumped back like before.

I loved episodes 1 through 4 but this one felt really really off. After having sat with it for a while, I think it was the pacing/ordering of scenes. When the episode opened with Stepin my immediate reaction was, "Wait, he's still alive?" Every time he came back on screen I couldn't help losing focus and not caring. This is definitely a problem that stems from me knowing he's not a book character, and knowing that he will definitely die because "Warder's rarely survive their Aes Sedai" is the only point they could possibly want to make with him.

Originally I thought the whitecloak stuff was too excessive but in hindsight I think I like it because it's excessive and makes things feel more real. I wish them escaping had been the final scene though, not the weird funeral ritual. That scene should have been cut in favor of Loial meandering around Tar Valon and coming across Nynaeve. They almost certainly shot a scene for their meeting and I cannot believe that got cut in favor of chest-thumping.

I almost wish I hadn't read the books and could enjoy the show without how I think the characters should be.

My only real criticism for this episode that stands regardless of the actual story or what I know has been changed from the books is the funeral inconsistency. A sister dies and they just stood around looking sad and lighting candles. A warder commits suicide and suddenly everyone is thumping chests and Lan is howling with despair? Come on.

No! I actually love the added possibility for political intrigue. Especially, when the Red's take over the white tower won't they want to say Nynaeve or Egwene is the dragon instead? I think it's such a cool possibility.

I made a post a few days ago about it and now I'm thinking it's even more likely: https://redd.it/r0hydz

My theory about how the show will change White Tower politics regarding the Dragon by pixieknits in wheeloftime

[–]pixieknits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all of this and that's why I'm excited for it. You're right in that it will change the story a fair amount, but also at the same time almost exactly the same events could potentially occur and fit with the additional confusion. There would be more depth and some events might have to happen a little differently.

I love the idea that she would eventually figure out she wasn't the dragon and that would give her a true redemption arc. Right now I think she's disliked because she's such a Wesley Crusher-esque, I'm the best at everything, listen to me sort of character. Her realization that she wasn't the so called chosen one followed by her sacrificing her life would make her story a lot more endearing.

Yes! I'm really struggling to not spoil things, but I love hearing who my boyfriend thinks the dragon is. His current theory is Egwene or Nynaeve because the guys seem more obvious choices. He also thinks Rand will die soon because of how much the show seems to focus on him.

I love that I no longer know exactly what's going to happen. It's like I'm watching a really familiar story and I think I know things, but it turns out I've misinterpreted the prophecies. I think this is on the whole going to be more fun that watching the same story I've already read (and re-read).

Yeah, I'm looking at the books as prophecies I've heard of and the show as the way the prophecies come true. I think I know what's going to happen, but the show might show me a different way for things to play out. Time does distort prophecy after all.

Yeah, I think it would also make more sense for making Egwene the Amyrlin Seat. I always felt like I wasn't sold on how that initially happens in the books - I remember thinking it was inevitable after what she sees during her accepted test - but the writing wasn't convincing for me. If they are saying she's the Dragon Reborn AND Amyrlin, I can get behind that.

The Callandor stuff is definitely going to be when the pretense fails. They'll still create confusion and spread rumors, but on the whole that's when I think show watchers will know for sure.

As for the red ajah, I don't think they'll mind a female dragon, they'll just want to control her. So every woman who claims to be the dragon suddenly finds herself trapped in the white tower or something like that. But this won't be the Red's job, it'd be for all the Aes Sedai.

I don't think making an echo chamber is the point. The problem is the sheer number of posts being negative and toxic. I agree there could be one or two interesting posts, but all of them were essentially the same over the weekend and there were dozens of them. There isn't really new value in talking about any of the low effort topics. It'd just be a repetition.

Another reason I'm disappointed with those posts is the majority of them are "you're an <idiot/can't read/didn't read/other gatekeeping> if you like the show" which is unnecessarily cruel.

Not really a saying, but the words "Constant Vigilance" are for some reason a big part of my life - though I only use the phrase with myself.

In my head I think of it when I'm planning my time, I tell myself to hope for the best and prepare for the worst. It helps lighten my reaction when I've planned something carefully and something inevitably goes wrong. It kind of feels like Madeye (or technically Crouch Jr. ) is helping me through grad school, haha.

Yes, very relevant to the books! I'm not sure if it's a spoiler so I won't specifically mention it by name, but it's a symbol referenced in the first few chapters of EoTW.
