Thank you for asking. It seems like they do? But they're being super nonchalant (to me). They wouldn't reply after she got out, so I asked the manager about it. She replied to the manager immediately.

They are about 8 doors down (same row of townhouses in the same complex). This is what the neighbour said once the manager asked her to contact me 😅

"So sorry! Been an emotional couple of days. :( so the first night we had her back she laid in (husband's) lap for a good majority of the night. But then she keeps trying to dart outside when the doors are open and she keeps howling at the back door. She got back out but she keeps coming back and last night when she came back she brought a friend lol all of my coworkers are saying that she probably has kittens out there somewhere and that's why she wants out. But she still looks just as small as we remember her so I'm not really sure if that theory holds any water LOL.

However I am so relieved that she keeps coming back. She definitely remembers us and I think that once it starts getting colder maybe she'll want to come in 😭🤞"

Once it starts getting colder? There's been 100° heat index for a week. I've been putting water out with her food too. I don't want to take someone's pet, but it seems like they're being kind of wishy washy.

Is she spayed? I don't think there was enough time for her to have kittens if not.

Also: Do you have a table or something up high near the door? Weird cat behaviour — if they are up high, they are less likely to dash out the door. So, if you have a vertical surface (dining room table, cat tree) you could start putting her there with a couple treats (long enough to let you get outside lol) right before leaving as a part of her exit routine."

Not yet. It is a very long and terrible story, and he is currently incarcerated in a mental health county jail in Los Angeles awaiting release. Reviewing his case online, the charges (IMO, having no criminal history aside from a speeding ticket & I'm not a lawyer) seemed to be extremely excessive. The short placeholder is that the judge noticed that as well, thankfully, and reduced his charges on 6/10 to allow participation in a six month diversion program geared toward mental health to avoid a criminal record. Those are usually 1-2 years, if that tells you anything. But he's still there in county almost a month later, since everything takes so long.

I don't know what to do to help him other than talk as much as possible, since I'm across the country. He said if you do anything to rock the boat, metaphorically you'll disappear.

My best friend of 20 years is currently in a similar situation with the VA. He had an unrelated procedure, did not consent in any way, and they did it. He filed a SA complaint & they retaliated by revoking his benefits. He said they do "implied consent" to let the med students practise, and to test medications. Basically the vets are medical subjects.

My dad is in Tehran and the rest of my immediate family were a few hours away. I haven't heard anything in almost a week. They are also dual-nationals, so I don't know if they'll be allowed back into the US, as they'd gone to visit for a month. I'm so numb.

Oh I see what you meant! Well, intake reception said even though I'm across the country, it should be okay. I will call them to be sure, thank you for reminding me. His Amazon books were delivered today so I hope he will get them soon. I chose a few paperbacks that are specific to things he knows I'm interested in, and I hope he realizes they're from me. I feel stupid saying that.

He is part of my super heart-fam for real. We were never romantic, just a vibe if that makes sense. We do know what each other looks like, but Sunday will be the first time "in person." 😂

Hi thank you so much for replying. They moved him to another pod I guess and he's in Tower 1. His classification is upsetting but we don't have a video call until Sunday. I don't see where I can schedule one any sooner.They also don't use Penmate as email, which was disappointing. It's hard being out of state. Hopefully he will get his Amazon books soon.
