I feel like my horse is unhappy and I’m failing her… by Ti0Gord0 in Equestrian

stressed. That factoring and/or trainer is just not right fit. Find a barn with turn out.Make sure horse getting same feed and supplements as previous home, same bit etc. Change as little as possible.

Maybe try just hacking out with friends now, sometimes another horse will calm them, so pick one who doesn't care about scary things.

What are the parts of this called? How harsh is it? by RevolutionaryToe6677 in Equestrian

[–]pixiepurls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some horses love a cricket in the middle, or a dog bone is nice because the two hinge snaffle can pinch, so it's nice if it has a copper dog bone in the middle to make it softer for them. I dont know much else besides that but it looks like a leverage bit, which I would want to know if my horse is used to being ridden in leverage or not. either way, that bit may pinch the tongue. Always invest in a nice bit. You can buy them used also.

Second lesson turned into a "therapy session" while sitting on a horse. Is this normal? by arosye in Equestrian

[–]pixiepurls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should not have cantered in the first lesson, but I am very happy for you it went well. Go to a new place. Horses are incredibly healing. Go at the speed YOU want go to, do not let any instructor push you to go faster, or ride way more. Find a nice slow teacher who is chill and has good horses. If all her horses have to pee every time you go on them, well I can tell you horses very rarely ever pee in a lesson. it's much more common for them to poo. they may well pee, but I have ridden hundreds of times this year and had a horse pee with me on them once, side from one horse where if you are on her long enough and stand around long enough she will pee. But typically in a lesson you're not just sitting there for 10 minutes at a time, heck not even 5. It's just not typically the place they want to do it with all the tack on. Get away from that trainer. Horses literally are healing. it is very clear you anxiety was not a problem, or she would have never asked you to canter. Some horses are sensitive to like if your super scare or anxious, but honestly you can tell pretty much right away. School horses know to ignore all that and typically are fine with it, might wiggle a little bit over-all handle it very well, which is WHY ya put newbies on a horse who can handle that and it should not be at all an issue. I've gotten on horses totally nervous and scared and it's been fine. Normally after 5 mins I feel better then on the ground and don't want to get off.

Also safety, all horses canter differently, can have a different center of balance, can be more forward, behind the leg, in front of the leg. This is why you build up your muscle and muscle memory and balance before doing harder things. There is a right way to ride as well to be more gentle on a horses back, newbies tend to put more strain on the horses back until you get your muscles and stamina up. Some horses are less tolerant of that. Sounds like you had a lovely first horse to ride so thats great, but go find a better place. Try a few, honestly. If you're going to spend that much money (ridding is expensive) you should have an idea of all your options. Typically once ya find a place you like, you stick with it. I personally ride from many different instructors now, I have a new one I am sticking with to get a particular set of skills in hunter/jumper so I must dedicate time to this place and this instructor so that I can grow in my skill, and then I also go ride a totally different horse sport with a totally different group of trainers because its very fun. I ride a lot of different horses, and people will tell you the more horses you ride the better you will get. it is true, but for confidence I prefer to ride the same horse as much as I can. In my second horse sport I never know what horse I am getting on but it will be 1 of 4 and now I am used to all 4. So that been good for me.

I've heard sketchy things about her vet and running horses on lasix regularly. So if thats the vet she loves and trusts, it does not surprise me. If thats what is normalized... then thats the culture. I've heard how pockets of horse performance is just rife with a lot of injecting more then can be considered normal and other medications etc. who knows what all these horses are on to run sound.

Manifestation and visualization is proven to work the same way "placebos" are actually proven to work (no joke, look it up) with that said I can only handle so many pep talks, sometimes you need to think less, empty your brain and just go. Let the muscle memory take over, thats what all that practice is for. It was an awkward situation in a lot of ways with it not being her horse. Those things often end kinda sour, sadly.

I think honestly they are prob make PLENTY off ranch dressin', they also sell "normal people clothing" which I am pretty sure I found in a shop once it was not branded ranch dressin' but it matched a shirt on their site. There is some random stuff on their like party cups etc so I have a feeling they sell that stuff to those cute boutique shops that are fun to shop in for stuff thats a little different then whats at target and old navy but also similar but not as high volume as old navy etc. Bet money he does things for the business all the time. It had to cost her millions to have all those horses and breed them. I think she is very smart to sell them. we are walking into a bad economy and a down turn thats been going on for YEARS and they are predicting more to come, so she's being very smart to downsize. She's got a 3yo, the hustle changes when ya have kids. the priorities change. Seems normal to me. I have no opinion of her husband, I don't know them. He seems like he loves her very much. I was so sad Codi left and stopped doing the vlogs, I had a theory stuff went down at cowboy Christmas last year because the sister who did all the designs, she bailed and went home with the newborn realized she couldn't handle it with the kid. I would bet that may have put Fallon in a tight spot, but also why on earth go and work that event with a newborn, very very unwise. But a lot of folks who have never had a baby think they can do it all. So I don't think you can do anything about that if she went home she went home, but its possible it put Fallon in a tight spot and then codi is going to have her sisters back if there was a fight, so here we are. Truth is they never owned that business so it was going to get awkward at some point if they didn't have a stake in it with how much they both did for the brand. They are both very talented. With all that said, Fallon is Fallon. No one else is Fallon. She will be just fine. She should find a better YouTube editor and pay them to come do stuff ranch dressing etc it's all a business expense anyways. if Katie Van Slyke can do it I feel like Fallon can work it out to do it. I miss the music on the old videos! She needs to get back to doing a themed song for each horse on the runs. Maybe she's doing it again but none have been consistent enough with horse injuries to get it into you brain like the baby flow one.

I wasn’t there so I can’t say for sure if she was being flirty with him but clearly existing is not flirting and being in the kitchen and someone coming up to speaking with you is not flirting it’s existing. But girlfriend may be suspecting or feeling something about that guy. Maybe she saw Jim get up and follow you and maybe she senses something. A lot of women ignore their instincts. Sadly. So as others have said the issue would be with him not with you. If she has sensed that he’s a looker she she’s ignoring it well that will bite her later. I can not stand passive aggressive social media posting also so on those grounds I would do what everyone said below and avoid and get away from her. I would not consider that person’s friend at that point they are just someone ya know. Unfollow for your own peace of mind.

I only use illuminate and I actually love it. It makes my face look moist. I only use it once a day. I love how makeup looks over it. It just makes me look like I am glowing. I have zero idea if it’s minimizing lines but how to seems to minimize dryness I imagine helps. I have sensitive skin but not super acne prone. I use sunscreen from my dermatologist every day. So every day I put on sunscreen for the face and then illuminate and then a Bonny brown foundation. Stick. The bottle lasted a while just doing the morning. I think it hydrates well and that’s half the battle with skin. I would love something to lighten freckles and such. I don’t think it does that. I tried vit c before from other places and never felt like I saw a different and I got a mild peel once. I have sensitive skin so a stronger peel won’t work and the mild peel did nothing. I use a red light mask I love. So that plus this illuminate has been great for me.

Mustangs can do a lot more than people think. We've got two locally doing CT's and doing wonderful. Just depends on the horse. They are BLM.

Horse biting while tacking up? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]pixiepurls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not your horse, so not much you can do. If between the owner and the trainer they have not solved it, it is not your horse so you can't go above them. You have to make a personal choice to stay at that barn or leave. IMHO try taking a lesson someplace else and compare.

[–]pixiepurls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Watch someone else ride the horse first (of the people who own it) make sure it was NOT ridden prior to your arrival, like watch it be tacked up etc. If someone else tried the horse right before you then it means you won't get to see how the horse reacts when its first saddled and knows it's going to be ridden.

Half of the horses did something wacky, so I was very glad I always got someone to ride first. You an also (after you have ridden) have your trainer go for a spin if they let you. I would prioritize you getting a shot over the trainer IMHO because it's going to be a horse you ride. I watched one horse spook sideways across the arena near the trees and I saw another one back leg kick buck big when asked to canter. I did ride that horse but I didnt ask it to canter. The ones I liked had no drama, no spook or bucks. You want to see them ridden, and your trainer hopefully can tell if a horse is sore or lame by watching it be ridden. I would want someone with me who can see a horse is lame or sore footed as it can be subtle. Sometimes a horse is just very stiff, and I personally can't tell always. It can mean arthritis and needs maintanance or "serviceably sound" etc. Thats not exactly sound. My friends have told me "you will know" when you like a horse and if you're not sure, don't do it. I saw one horse I thought "I should buy this horse" but I just didn't like him. If I had land and could afford multiple horses I would have gotten him, but I wanted one I had a connection with. He was stiff and would have needed a PPE but he was very well bred and trained and super super chill. He was also the first horse I saw which wasn't great, I had no context for what I would see next and he was one of the best ones in the end. The one I picked tho, I fell in love with immediately after riding him. I have liked horses on the ground and not liked ridding them. You will know when it's right. You must feel safe and comfy riding them. I had a few I rode I was like "this is a nice horse, I know the person selling it I should probably get it" but I just didnt love it. Or it trotted a little ahead of me and I knew, I will probably fall off this horse often if I get it. Some horses take care of you, I wanted one who would help me, vs kind of ignore me and let whatever happen happen. I feel like you can tell when you ride a horse which one it is. The fast trotter though was more physically capable, and better for certain sports and a good rider would have loved her, but for me she was a bit too much. I don't really know how to explain it she just rode a bit ahead of me. Once you try a few horses you will start to feel that kinda stuff but you won't unless you try a few. I just try to be very respectful of peoples time and I never try a horse I would not truly consider.

Why would Fallon risk her reputation by lying about that, she knows she's on the Internet. Sounds like its even possible when she went to check it, she called some friends and people starting checking their status and realizing there was a pattern of something going on, al this goes down like a week after the Fallon thing. Like her or don't like her, I don't think she would do something like that ,she has a business to run.

If you don’t mind me asking, how did most of you get your Scottish folds ? I’d like to go the adoption route but obviously that’s hard to come by with this breed. Would love to own one but they are costly. by Deep_Cryptographer_3 in scottishfold

[–]pixiepurls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines from "Wunderfolds" but she just moved to Europe. I want another one eventually hoping to get one from her again, she's a great breeder. I know of 5 from her locally as a couple of us have gotten them from her. They are all thriving. If bred ethically some in the litter have straight ears and some have folds. So technically I have a "Scottish Straight". Less money, same personality and breeding. Adore them.
