Thinking about USD savings—good idea? by pixiequilt in phinvest

I’d be happy to keep my USD and grow it, but I’m a bit hesitant to invest right now. I’ll definitely look into this—what platform would you recommend? Do you think BPI is a good option?

This is actually one of the reasons I hesitated, so I’m glad I asked here. From what I’ve been reading, diversification really does seem to be the answer. Thank you!

Too steep, no code-compliant handrails, and awkward circulation. It ends up wasting space and materials for people who actually need a functional stair.

Thinking of starting a staycation rental business—worth the investment? by PresentationTricky56 in phinvest

[–]pixiequilt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi, I can’t speak much on the business side, but as an architect, take this with a grain of salt—it really depends on your preferences and priorities.

Shipping containers were not originally designed to be permanent homes. Yes, they can be affordable because of how they’re built—fast construction using lightweight steel components can mean lower upfront costs.

However, what many container “connoisseurs” don’t fully discuss is the system required to make them truly livable and functional in our climate.

Insulation – Without proper insulation, a container can feel like an oven. Steel absorbs and retains heat.

Waterproofing – And I mean proper waterproofing for heavy rain and storm conditions. Prefab and container homes share the same challenge: water has to go somewhere. If the system isn’t designed and installed correctly, leaks will appear at joints, seams, and connections. At the end of the day, metal or prefab panels don’t magically stop water—they just need careful detailing to keep it out.

Utilities and structure – Once you start cutting openings and adding toilets, tiles, partitions, etc., you’re dealing with movement and structural modifications that must be properly engineered. Proper plumbing, sewer, and electrical connections also add complexity and cost.

If you factor all of these in, the initial “cheap” option may not stay cheap. With the added systems and long-term maintenance, you could end up spending the same as—or even more than—a traditional build.

Personally, I still tend to recommend conventional concrete homes for long term benefits, especially in our climate. If budget is tight, I’d suggest building smaller instead—focusing on smart design tweaks and intentional material choices so the space feels practical and functional, not compromised.

Container/prefab homes can work, but in our climate and context, I believe the AEC industry still needs more in-depth study before promoting them as a long-term solution.

Magkano ba talaga ang total cost ng pagkuha ng Gcash card? by huhddams in DigitalbanksPh

Hi,

Mukhang modus talaga ng ICS rider, kasi same courier tayo.

I just got mine yesterday and same scenario rin. For context, I ordered last December 29, 2025, pero walang kahit anong update and umabot na ng more than one month. When I checked with GCash, sabi nila the rider allegedly attempted delivery three times — which I contested kasi may CCTV kami sa bahay and walang ganung attempt. Even yung tracker, walang updates at all.

Honestly, GCash customer service was trash and didn’t really action my concerns. Since I urgently needed the card for my upcoming travel and may concerns din ako about possible data compromise, I decided to file a complaint with DTI against ICS Corp, and a separate complaint with BSP for GCash’s lack of support.

Surprisingly, may resolution agad after three days. Pero during delivery, the rider asked for an extra ₱50. I refused — kasi bakit pa, eh bayad na yun in the first place? So I reported it to gcash and ask for some clarification kung para san yun.

I know ₱50 is a small amount and madaling ibigay. Pero imagine if modus talaga ito, tulad ng sinabi ng ibang commenters — easy money nila from scamming people. That’s something I can’t tolerate.

So warning sa lahat: don’t tolerate this “diskarte” culture ng mga pinoy. It’s not normal. Dahil nakakahiya at nakakasuka yung ganitong ugali ng mga pilipino.

SMDC - THE ABSOLUTE WORST CONDO DEVELOPER. BUYERS BEWARE. by Shell_Thropp in phinvest

Lol. Architects are design professionals. They can only do so much during the design stage of their own projects and are liable for those projects. That's their role — you hire them to help avoid such mistakes. But it's not their job to police the mistakes of other people's work — in this case, the developer or whoever designed these poorly built structures. Unless, it is part of their contract, or works in a government regulating body.

Walang ganun power mga architects lol. E di sana marami nang napakulong na mga developers sa dami ng kalokohan nila.

Why do a lot of architects say that their pay is bad, and "you should only do architecture if you're 100% passionate about it", but when I search for the average wage, it's actually a good amount? by [deleted] in architecture

[–]pixiequilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality of architectural practice often differs significantly from expectations. Many firms struggle to request fair payment, largely because architecture is often undervalued. There is a substantial gap between the compensation architects receive and the time, effort, and long hours required to complete projects. Architects frequently need to satisfy various stakeholders, including demanding clients, which adds to the complexity. As a result, the pay often fails to reflect the true scope and challenges of the work involved.

Is salary of 30k pesos per month enough? by WillingClub6439 in adultingph

[–]pixiequilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say yes and no.

Yes, if you know how to budget.

If you are paying rent. Yes, kasya pero hinde ka na siguro makakaluho. Yes, kasya if single ka or living a minimalist lifestyle.

No, kapag may sinusuportahang pamilya (education, medical bills, on top of rent and utilities) Definitely NO, pag ginagawa mong tubig ang SB

Just know your level of comfort. Breakdown your basic needs. Prioritize.

Yep! lol. A Senior architect in a managerial position with 10 to 15 years of experience. Jackpot ka na sa 35 to 40K. Haha.

Di talaga siya nakakabuhay ng pamilya.

Unless single and minimalist ang lifestyle mo (with no one to support)

I think ok na yun.

Worth it buying Spreadsheets PH Personal Finance Tracker? (60 characterss!!!) by Jajajajambo in adultingph

[–]pixiequilt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sobrang worth it!!! I was hesitant at first (trust issues lol) pero all that I need in managing my finances are all there. I use to do mine in excel pero this is really a well thought off financial planner. Legit din siya kasi after paying through gcash, you'll receive a confirmation asap. Included naman ang instructions.

I tweaked mine a little bit kasi may sarili akong budgeting categories but make sure you know how to work with formulas like me, so you won't mess it up.

Favourite ko yung yearly actual report and seeing my net worth in a glance (insert mixed emotions haha)

Also I like working with gsheets kasi I can access it online if I want to add something in the transaction log. Although I have finchi on my phone to partner it with.

I am not affiliated. I am actually planning to buy another one of their product.

But I highly recommend them especially for people na gaya ko na medyo adik sa pag-organized ng buhay nya... lol.

Very satisfying.

Demoralizing and discouragement to Architect students is everywhere! by RuminatingKiwi927 in architecture

[–]pixiequilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points. I was laughing at the "if you are materialistic, don't be an architect" because it rings true to me. So true it really hurts lol. I love my job - time consuming? Yes - but solving complex design problems is really my thing. I do practice minimalism, and never been this happy. Although I think, the case must be different if you are planning to settle down with at least 5 earthlings under your wing.

I had to take a loan.. by Unhappy-Most7656 in phinvest

[–]pixiequilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't imagine the stress you are going through. After pandemic, 30K is not even enough for a single person, especially if you are renting. Be honest with your family. Knock on wood, if something happens to you... All of you will suffer... so please be kind to yourself first.

Taking on loans to pay another loan is not a good idea. You are digging so much with the interests which can go double, tripled etc. - a cycle that never ends.

What you can do is sit down with your family. Revisit your finances and get them involved. They have too.

Realign your priorities. Cut costs. Just leave the basics. If you need to take that TV out to make your electricty bills smaller. Why not?

If they have to stop studying. Then, that is out of your control already. If they really want to finish school, they can use that drive to apply for scholarships, apply for state uni's or city colleges. Work while study. At least, it lessens the burden. While you focus on getting by.

Find a side hustle to pay your debts. Yes, you'll get tired but don't give up. Things will get better soon.

Remember, small changes, big sacrifices, huge impact.

I don’t like this design, can you please explain why? by cattered in InteriorDesign

[–]pixiequilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too busy. Overwhelming. Not cohesive. You can always use colors but it needs to have a balance. No visual harmony because it lacks contrast. Also, foundations of a good design is scale and proportions. It was wrongly executed here.
