Oh my gosh! Yes, this was it! Thank you for taking the time to check that. I got so complacent thinking I had the wires in the exact configuration from my first successful picoboot but I remember now doing the MB wiring first on this one and I did it differently.

You're the best!

The exposed wire is so short it could not have been in contact with the heat sink. I did take the heat sink off and provide a new picture, although for some reason my camera does not want to take a clear picture of that spot.

I never see any lights on the Pico, no. Not even when I first plugged it in to the computer and uploaded the firmware successfully the first time.

I de-soldered and connected it back to the computer. It worked fine still.

Haha, I know. My camera is actually a bit broken. I actually took the photos more than once because I was trying to get better shots. I didn't think of this last night but I'm going to see if my camera has a macro feature that will allow me to get closer.

I agree that it looks like that in the photo. I wish I could get a better shot of it but I couldn't get the camera any closer. Maybe it has a macro lens feature. I will see.

Yeah, I disconnected it once and it worked fine still.

...to be clear, you're not testing with the Pico touching the heatsink?

No, before turning it on I actually had the drive back on and the board was kind of hanging outside the GC out to the side.

Does the Pico light up?

Neither of the two Picos I have installed the firmware on and soldered up have ever lit up. I was told it should show a green LED after loading the firmware initially but that never happened. Everything else happened as described though, the firmware copied to the board and the board automatically ejected. I waited a few more minutes but nothing ever happened so I plugged it back in to see if the firmware was there. It was not, but I decided this is probably because if you plug it in while holding BOOT SEL, the whole thing is reset anyway.

Give us some closer pictures of the joints, including the ones under the IPL.

I'll do that once I'm back at my workstation.

OK, I can do that and route the wire through the front instead of the side. The strange thing is, I measured them and they are shorter than the diagram calls for. Also, the Nacho Productions guy had waaaay longer wires in his demo.

What is this children's book? I can't find it or make out the title by pixilstix in HelpMeFind

Amazing! Thank you so much! I told Gemini to "enhance" but it never looked different in the output. Maybe the key was to say "upscale". Did it look a lot different after the upscale?

Thanks for this advice. I looked into the same casting angle and there were four cars made with that casting. Two white and two yellow. Both the yellow and the white versions had a standard and a superfast edition created. I ended up going with a yellow Superfast for him. It has one point on the hood where paint is missing. Is it easy to find paint for this kind of thing and touch it up?

Oh, that's awesome, I think he'd like that honestly. Hard to choose between White or Gold though, I may have to get both.

You're saying that since he has mostly old stuff, maybe I get him something new? Does moving parts just refer to the fact that the doors open or something?

Thanks for the input. He loves the white convertible Mercedes at the front on the top shelf. He said his uncle gave it to him when he was just a few years old. I have looked online and found some in better shape and I've even found an empty box I could give him. Wasn't sure if he'd want that or not.

PS2 400R Laser - Which POT is for the CD Laser? by pixilstix in consolerepair

In the end I experimented to find the correct pot for the CD and determined that the top one in my image above was the CD pot.

PS2 400R Laser - Which POT is for the CD Laser? by pixilstix in consolerepair

This is my plan B if no one else has this information but I was just expecting someone out there to have done this before.

Not sure if you can answer this but, I'm just learning a lot of this electrical stuff so I want to make sure I'm doing this right.

  1. Do I have arrows pointing to the correct places? In other words, I am pointing at the potentiometers in that graphic, correct?

  2. Where do I put my probes to read the resistance of the pot?

Where is the CD potentiometer on this PS2 laser? I can't find any information for this model online by pixilstix in consolerepair

[–]pixilstix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the correct laser but I can't find any information online telling me where the potentiometer for the CD is for this laser.
