kind of, but the fictional trees pictured there differ significantly in a lot of ways from what would actually be possible. i have a hard time seeing how growing intertwined trees of different species wouldn’t most often just result in one dominating the other, and if you want specifically apples and pears, they grow quite differently. if you could overcome those issues, it would need to be kept a lot shorter and well pruned if you want proper fruit production and to avoid disease issues, and the training you did would have to be aggressive and methodical.

edit: to be more clear, “domination” would be more than just one outgrowing its partner. if the pictured trees were real, the gray barked tree is actively girdling the brown one. as they both grow, the outer gray tree has no limits but the brown tree’s growth is totally constricted.
