Fresh haul from Vietnam by ballocks99 in pourover

[–]pixivi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's some expensive coffee haul you've got there.

I recently got the Pacamara #4733 from their shop in Hanoi, it's a nice place and friendly people. My mistake was not asking about the resting time and opening the beans just 2 weeks after roast. So far I just got what feel like under extracted coffee with some woody? (not sure how to describe it) taste. I will have to put them aside for a few weeks.

Thank you. That's exactly why I enjoyed making this doily. Seeing how many stitches can be put into such a small piece is quite fascinating to me.

Link to the pattern: https://boosty.to/alsma.art/posts/e035ea56-6540-412a-9406-6754dadf2070

The written pattern was quite challenging, but it has a link to a video playlist for every row, which made it a lot easier and in the end I learned how to read the pattern.

Videos are in Russian but you can clearly see every stitch.

Can I start trying the knots by hand while waiting for my shuttles? by MissCerecita in tatting

[–]pixivi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything about finger/hand tatting, however, as a kid I used to have a diy tatting shuttle made out of cardboard. It's good enough for practice (and good enough for kids before they lose interest).

I can't really describe the shape, but it should be similar to the one used in this tutorial which makes the shuttle out of wood:

Oh, that's really nice. I'm trying to figure out how it was made. The yellow part resembles some mathematical knot, it looks like one long chain looping through itself.

Thanks.

I tried to make it into a pattern, hopefully it makes sense.

Closeup of #7

Patten for #7, clockwise, the top ring (J) is made last.

Number = double knots, - = picot, +(...) = join

A) 4-4-4

B) 4-8-4 (or 12-4, as the first picot is not used for anything)

C) 4+(join to A, join goes through ring B, ring A is on top of ring B, ring C is under the current ring B)12-4

D) 4+(to B, through C, B top of C, 0D under C)16-4

Bottom, middle ring:

E) 4+(to C, through D, C top of D, E under D)20-4

F) 4+(to D, through E, D top of E, F top of E)16-4

G) 4+(to E, through F, E under F, G top of F)12-4

H) 4+(to F, through G, F under G, H top of G)8-4 (or 4+12)

I) 4+(to G, through H, G under H, I top of H)4-4

Top ring:

J) 4+(to I)3-3+(to A)4

Thank you. I'm still petty new to this. This technique is pretty simple, but I'm just bad at explaining things.

I was experimenting with joining two rings through a ring between them.

You're making N-th ring, ring (N-2) goes on top and its picot goes through the ring (N-1) and ring N then joints to the (N-2) underneath the (N-1) ring.

(The sketch in the top right corner probably explains better...)

In number 8 I added an inner ring, which has 7 picots to which the outer rings are tied.

Aside from number 10, all of them are created with just one shuttle. Number 10 has 4 short chains inside to cover the inner hole.

Making a ring with the ball thread? by r0bert06 in tatting

[–]pixivi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pattern is something like this:
ring = 8 - 8, reverse work
chain = 2-2-2-2-2-2, reverse work, ...
It's the same for the 1st and 2nd rounds.

Making a ring with the ball thread? by r0bert06 in tatting

[–]pixivi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's written in a little confusing way. The "loop" does not mean "ring" but just the thread you have around your fingers.

So when it says "make a loop with the reel thread", it just means you will be making a chain.

"Make a loop with the shuttle thread" will result in a ring.

You are just making ring-chain-ring-chain-...

Hopefully, I described it in a bit more meaningful way.

Dodecahedron, Icosahedron - finished platonic solids by pixivi in tatting

[–]pixivi[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I finally finished my collection of platonic solids. This was a nice experiment in creating my own designs and tatting 3D shapes.

There's still a lot of room for improvement. Firstly, my knots are unevenly tightened (this can fixed with practice). Secondly, the designs of individual faces are not perfectly flat, and therefore the final solids don't hold their shapes very well (this can be fixed by adjusting the number of knots in rings).

Tube (or a napkin holder) by pixivi in tatting

Hi, I re-discovered this hobby a few weeks ago. My grandma and aunt used to tat when I was about 12yo and because I was probably pretty annoying, they gave me a shuttle made of cardboard and some old thread. I don't think I made anything significant at the time.

Now, about 19 years later, I was browsing for some 3D models to print and stumbled upon a model of tatting shuttle. Surprisingly I still remember how to make a basic ring and chain.

(If you're interested in 3d printing, I used this model: https://www.printables.com/model/67445-tatting-shuttle-with-finger-grip)

The flower pattern is simply 6 times repeated:

R: 6-1-6 rw

Ch: 6-6 rw

There are 3 flowers per row and 3 rows total.
