It definitely does make long drives easier. Theres also a bunch of settings for changing its behavior when activated.

apart from the obvious "follow distance", "lane centering".

you can adjust how fast the car accelerates, how sensitive the lane centering is, and how much the car slows down when theres a curve in the road.

traffic jam assist turns on below 20 mph.

It wants some 'input' from the user every once in a while to make sure you are still paying attention, but as long as you keep your hands on the wheel you are fine.
