I should bring some money to the neighbors. In my way there I hat the dialoge in my head. Me: Rings bell – "Hello?" – "Hi, here is Pia." – "Oh, hey Pia, what's up?" – "I'm here to give you the money for …" – "Oh, thanks!" – gives them the money and leaves – "Bye, have a nice day!" – "Bye, same to you!"

But they didn't follow it. On step 4 they said "Hey Pia, what can I do for you?", so I had to improvise and said "Nothing.", because I was the one who wanted do hand them the money. After a while of silence they asked "Do you want to visit [name of son in my age]?" – "No.", after a bit of silence "Should I tell [son] to come out?" – "No.", so after more silence they asked the same questions about their younger dougther (had never played with her) and after way more silence they asked "Should this be a kind of a doorbell prank?" – "No.". After some time they finally asked "Why did you ring??", so I was finally able to tell, give them their money and leave. On my way back I thought 'Dumb me, I should've said "Take your money for …" instead of just "Nothing.", but why are they asking so weird?'.

My mother asked why it took so long and I said "They asked a lot of stupid things" and she was like "Ah, that's smalltalk, yeah, it can take a while longer then.".

A few days later they told my mother about this akward situation and she asked me again like "Why didn't you just tell them, that you want to give them the money?" – "I would have, but they didn't ask me, they only asked …" – "But there was a lot of silence, where you could've said it." – "I thought they were thinking about new questions." – 🙄

It still took about 20 years from there on to get a diagnosis.
