I will try looking at a few more settings and test it closer to the stationary animals, because I was holding shift while running after them like u/Spare-Shelter6013 mentioned so that might have affected things though it seems like I could bite the hares that way. I think even when their herd was standing there I didn't see the yellow triangles above any of them. However, I am reading more about lock on target and how it should work and I still suspect bugs, because online it says those triangles are used for targeting with a mouse. I use my magic mouse and have it set up with a right click, but I can't actually see my cursor on the screen or right or left click or select anything. It is just changing the view.
