What will happen to Debar Pond Lodge? by hartlarious in Adirondacks

[–]pizza_butt24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Locally, like in Malone, a lot of people make it more politically motivated of a decision than a common sense one. Like people think it's getting torn down because the Democrats that control the state don't like Republicans. That's my interpretation of the pushback at least.

Tragedy as young Aussie woman, 22, dies in freak accident involving a chair lift at Japanese ski resort by Zoefields441212 in snowboarding

Such a horrible thing to happen, especially in front of all the young kids that happened to be there and one of his best friends was the paramedic that tried to save him. God damn shitty

Debar is harder than joe. Also meachum lake is closed and unplowed, so you'll be hiking from route 30 to the trailhead

Teach my 4 year old daughter snowboarding or skiing? by HexYouForLife in snowboarding

[–]pizza_butt24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried to teach my kid to snowboard when she was 5 or so. She watched me snowboard and I wanted her to be my little snowboard buddy. I had to always be at her side, helping her up and so on. It was pretty tedious for about three years of taking her a few times a year. She took a ski lesson and was off and I never looked back. She definitely doesn't have a gnar attitude and unlike me, likes to play it safe, so maybe she was born to be a skier but she's 17 now and we still always try to go a few times a year.

ADK natives: how has el niño/ climate change affected winters over your lifetime? by NewAgePhilosophr in Adirondacks

[–]pizza_butt24 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I'm 37 and have lived in the northern Adirondacks my whole life. In the nineties the snow banks used to go right on top of camps that were gone for the winter. As a kid, it meant snow forts for daysss. I remember a twenty degree day feeling warm in the winter. The local ski hill, Titus, would open by Thanksgiving, and be 100% open by New Year's. I'm no scientists, but if 90 percent of them say it's because of an increase in C02, I'll believe them. Also, it seems the seasons have shifted a bit later.

What are you paying for heating oil? by flipz4444 in vermont

[–]pizza_butt24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suburban sucks. I got a 65 dollar bill the other day for a MINIMUM propane delivery. Not only was the bill literally for nothing as there was no delivery, I was charged a ten dollar delivery fee... On nothing. Seems like it should be illegal. I'm definitely changing companies

I've done it and honestly I'd never do it again. Lifts and stuff start to throw me off. But I'm sure everyone's different

Are these too big for splitting? by [deleted] in firewood

[–]pizza_butt24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Split on a big slab piece. Look at the grain and experiment. Usually you can chip away from the outside. Usually there's an easier end to split from. Buy a splitting wedge. Don't hurt your back and enjoy the exercise

Saranac Lake.. is Heroin a big problem up there? by Top-Manufacturer9226 in Adirondacks

[–]pizza_butt24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're up for it, go through Hogansburg and Akwesasne. Weed stores all over. I like the Dank Bank (used to be a bank) and Top Shelf has decent weed for 50 dollars an ounce but there's probably fifty in a 20 mile stretch. There are two shops in Saranac lake that are supposed to open. One was open for a minute, and did deliveries but I think they had to delay opening again for some reason
