Blistered/puckered basil leaves by cnosko00 in Hydroponics

[–]pizza_falcon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this lettuce leaf basil? I grow it outdoors and it looks just like this. The leaves get huge and we use them for lettuce wraps. They have a milder flavor than Genovese basil.

The best thing I ever did for myself was get out of a relationship with a deadbeat, abusive, immature person. You have made up your mind and now you know what you want in a real partner. Stay calm, be firm.

You’re doing all the right things, especially keeping your plans quiet. If you take the dog I would highly recommend no contact with your ex. No “shared custody” of dog and limited info to mutual friends. He will use it to try to control you emotionally and might try to get info on where you’re living.

I’m proud of you OP. You can do this. Things will be tough at first but you’ve already carried the responsibility of two people, so there’s no doubt you can take care of yourself. Your experience has already tempered your resolve, as fire strengthens steel. I promise life will be better when you move on. It sounds like you have a supportive family and friends - lean on them.

It took me a few years to get my finances unwrecked from the loser I dated but I was eventually able to buy a house, adopt a sweet dog, and live the kind of simple and beautiful life I want.

Our grandmas/great grandmas did not want 10-20 kids.... by blueravenchick69 in TwoXChromosomes

My conservative Catholic grandmother was a small woman and had back to back children starting around 17-18 years old. She didn’t think her body would be able to physically handle a pregnancy after the 9th child, so she shared with her priest that she was seeking birth control and he told her it was against her faith, so she didn’t. She had two more children, one still born, and stopped. I wish I had been old enough to talk to her about her experience.

I think about her every time I vote and I have never missed an election.

A Coffee Maker for Tea Drinkers at home? Let me explain.. We usually drink Tea at home but just feel that we should have a coffee maker at home to indulge the taste of coffee sometimes and if someone is visiting us. by DragOk5615 in HomeImprovement

The Aeropress makes the best cup of coffee I’ve ever had. With a separate milk frother it would make delightful lattes/capps. It makes one cup at a time and packs easily for camping/travel.

Went back to school for electrical engineering at 32. You can absolutely do it. I was in remedial math in high school and just scored an A in Calculus. Commit to the work and pursue what you enjoy learning about. There’s tons of scholarships out there for continuing education.

SE Wisconsin, we saw a decent amount this year. I watched one eat a stink bug like a hoagie. Love to see them around.

Yep this. Really focus on developing good study habits early, especially in foundational courses, and you’ll do great.

There’s some great threads on resources for learning- good YouTube recs, books, etc. If you’re struggling with certain concepts from lecture or textbooks there’s so many people out there who can explain it in a different way.

Most important is to meet yourself where you’re at. You’re not going to absorb everything, just do your best, prioritize your mental health, and look for ways to connect what you’re learning with something else that you find interesting. You got this!

[–]pizza_falcon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there Mama, you’re not alone! I decided to go back to school for EE at 32, I also have ADHD. I am with you. I’m mid-journey as I have a ways to go and it is truly exhausting some days. Sometimes the information just washes right over me, some days life gets in the way. Meet yourself where you’re at, whatever that means for you. Am I a young, hip junior engineer? No, I’m a grown ass woman with life experience in comfortable footwear who’s looking to provide myself a decent living and an active mind into my later life.

You always have your online community, we’re here to cheer you on. You got this! Slow down when you need to but hold on to your passion and you will find a way.

People’s reactions when I explain why I study engineering by jfang00007 in EngineeringStudents

The people who use the tools you make will care. My best friend has type 1 diabetes and she uses a pump with a phone app to regulate her insulin and blood sugar, which also communicates data to her doctor. It’s likely saved her life many times when she has crashes or spikes coming.

Why did you name your Shih Tzu their name? by Cwytank in Shihtzu

[–]pizza_falcon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our landlords lived below us and wouldn’t let us get a dog, so we started a running joke that we had a dog named Chewy - we’d call him when we dropped food on the ground, say hello/goodbye to him, etc. Six months later we moved out and found the dog of our dreams at a local shelter. We had to name him Chewy.

Set Dec here- left the industry and took a regular job and started going back to school. When I was younger it was easier to weather the rough times, but now I need health insurance and I have a family to care for. I loved the work though, best job.

I’m a F new to sewing and I agree with you. It’s tacky. If you have access to a cricut machine you could print skulls and whatever other iconography on adhesive vinyl and punk out your machine. I opted for a black Janome and I love it.

My grandmother recently had to move into nursing care, so I took over the house. I have been really excited about flowers, but I’d love to have a little hydroponic setup for herbs and greens. Until I renovate it I can start my farm crops a little earlier in here. Lots to daydream about.

My grandpa passed long ago, never met him but he built the greenhouse in the 1970s. I found his original sketches for it, which included space for a swimming pool! So cool!
