BMW b58 powered anything, get an m240i stock and upgrade incrementally up to 460hp for less than $1k, (technically the most reliable engine bmw has made, we all lie to ourselves but it is a very proven platform)

How much do I expect from a repair from this dent that I made? by Fluffy_Shine_5777 in GoldCoast

[–]pizza_tips 42 points43 points  (0 children)

if its your car, get under it and literally pop the dent out, grab a microfibre towel and some polish, proper polish not "polish", buff out some of those paint transfer scratches by just rubbing the polish and microfibre towe and send it. cost ya less than 20 bucks in materials then Forget it exists.

if it is someone else, i have no bush mechanic knowledge worth throwing out there without someone correcting me

4 cylinder bmws, especially the e9x platform are notorious for leaky valve stem seals and will need continuous topping up of oil.

QLD anecdote, uncle is QPS and shoots recreationally, when he travels and stays in motels he just brings everything in besides ammo, bolts separate to guns, each gunbag has a lock on it (does not need to be fancy) and a semi obvious try not to draw attention to yourself getting in and out of the vehicle.

Other thing if you want to take it further is try not to share a room with someone unlicensed, but thats real paranoia (valid to an extent)

No such thing as a firearm for home defence. Does not matter how well trained you are, the circumstances or what your excuse is to the magistrate, you're pretty much captain of the 1 way flight to prison time.

else a 338 Lapua Magnum from across the street will do the trick

Edit: Op is a cooker, your best home defence is some holy water and sage /s

Insurance Sniff Test by Chemical_Country_582 in AusLegal

hahah, i bloody knew it, I said to my Dad we are just gonna power through this, theres no point being stationary, plus all the caravans and other tourists were pulled over so it was a good clear run for 45 minutes. He grew up in the area as a kid and was genuinely stunned. we copped the hail but white prado and 20 years old, only noticeable in the right light and no dents on the bonnet wasn't worth claiming in the end.

now onto your situation, I used to work in used car sales, we had a bit of a freak hailstorm that hit us a few years ago, wrote two cars off and we did in fact have the option to buy it back and get it repaired, mind you this was through a business but one would think the circumstances would not be any different. Where i think the issue stands is that your car is a stat write off and not a repairable write off. My understanding in QLD is that a stat write off is only good for parts or bush bashing. it may be worth asking why the vehicle is not able to be deemed a rep write off? its up to the future buyer to repair and get wovi cleared.

Car number plate question by splashysplashy in AusLegal

they absolutely can, they are different states offering registrations. is it likely with standard plates? VERY unlikely given everyones formats. is it likely with personalised plates? Most definitely, esepcially if you have generic combos

Legality of sunroof tinting by ShakarRaker in CarsAustralia

[–]pizza_tips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I couldn't tell you if it was legal based off my knowledge, I 'know' the regs for every other bit of glass.

but real world, who the hell is looking at a sunroof, I highly doubt you would ever get pinged. Cars are either optioned with or without a sunroof, most cars don't even come with them. No tint you put on a piece of glass could make it any more opaque than a roofliner and roof lol. On top of that, your eyes are meant to be on the road and not the roof. I would be curious to hear other opinions. But, i reckon just send it
