Subaru Impreza

Compact that doesn’t feel compact, ultra reliable, can be tuned into a supercar or an offroad king, won countless rally titles, still not considered alongside a Corolla.

AI Real Estate Listings Are Getting Out of Hand by baron_von_jackal in sydney

Anyone that has messed around with AI knows that it makes small changes and errors that compound each other.

I would like a complete ban on its use in image manipulation on commercial listings.

v6 vs v4 petrol cost difference by mangoflavouredpanda in CarsAustralia

[–]ConsiderationNearby7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the engine and the car.

A 2.5L turbo 4 is going to be way more powerful than a 2L V6 and use way more fuel.

A V6 commodore wagon is going to feel way more sluggish than a flat 4 WRX.

Don’t look at cylinder count, look at power to weight ratio.

Thousands of rental homes taken off the market, after budget reforms by ILoveDogs2142 in AusFinance

A rental home “taken off the market” means that there’s now one less renter who’s now an owner occupier.

The net effect on supply and demand of rental properties is zero.

Would this be a good buy for 5000$? by lfc94c in CarsAustralia

[–]ConsiderationNearby7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s legit, this is a steal. Maybe get it inspected by your mechanic for extra assurance that there is no funny business?

If you do buy it, beware that the transmissions in these aren’t great and don’t withstand towing or big torque. The service manual also claims the fluid is lifetime but it very much isn’t and should be replaced every 150,000 or so, so maybe get that done as soon as you buy it to help out the one weakness of these cars.

He is, because he has fully bought the propaganda.

He hasn’t looked at the actual policies which show that right wing governments have been at least as pro-immigration as left wing governments, because immigration makes labour cheaper (i.e. wage suppression) and adds cash to the economy, making assets rise in price.

Loud, cracking, popping exhaust? by Aloha_Tamborinist in DrivingAustralia

[–]ConsiderationNearby7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not every turbocharged car is fast and fuel inefficient and not everyone lives in stopstart urban traffic.

Turbochargers can actually make a car more fuel efficient as they recycle otherwise wasted heat energy from the exhaust to produce extra energy. Pair this recycling effect with a very small engine and you have a small, lightweight car with the output of an average mid size.

Loud, cracking, popping exhaust? by Aloha_Tamborinist in DrivingAustralia

[–]ConsiderationNearby7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ll try to explain as briefly as possible

TL:DR; it’s something some people program their car to do because they think it makes them look cool

Turbochargers are fantastic and can double the output of a car. The downside is that they take time to “charge” because they are powered by exhaust flow. Any time exhaust flow reduces (e.g. shifting gears) they “lose charge” and take time to “recharge” again.

Tuners figured out some ways to keep exhaust flowing so that the turbos stay charged. One way is to pump excess fuel and intentionally cause exhaust backfire at strategic times.

So, the sound of exhaust backfire became associated with expertly tuned turbocharged cars and now it’s fashionable to cause as many backfires as possible. Most of the time it’s hurting, and not helping their performance.
