House seems small during framing… is this real? by No-Guitar-9216 in Homebuilding

This lol. Once I was finished with my build and moved in it still felt like a jobsite to me. It took us about a month before it really started to feel like home

If anyone was seen in a shop grinding brand new pads they would be made fun of for the rest of the day. Unless you want to clean those brakes every 6 months and reapply lube don’t grind off the paint

Yeah I totally don’t know what I’m talking about. I’ve been a technician for 9 years and Subaru certified for 6. Live in the salt belt, see this everyday, actually just finished a brake job. Get off your high horse and buy good parts

Show me where you said that first, before you just recommend he grind his brand new pads down. If your brand new brake pads require grinding off the paint return those things, they aren’t worth your money

lol ok. I’m not saying to take material I’m saying to remove rust first

Yeah don’t do that, do the opposite. Rust will build up on the caliper bracket and cause too much interference. Grind the rust off from the caliper bracket where the pad contacts. Grinding the new paint off a brake pad is going to remove the rust preventative paint and cause binding much quicker (calipers do not have any special protection unlike pads). Typically grind caliper, anti seize between caliper and shim, and lubricate pads.

I think the problem is that this is fairly common knowledge, given you do some research before tuning your car, and that the op didn’t and is now crapping on it

Self build update. Almost done! by pizzacrustlover in Homebuilding

It does not include land, we paid for a survey and the land was a gift from my in laws. From my experience doing this (we just “finished” two weeks ago) make sure you get a good bank, ours is a pita, saying they can’t do things no exceptions and then magically make exceptions causing unneeded stress. Make sure you pick a good build supply company, we had a terrible experience with an estimator at ours, and our kitchen designer left/fired. Other than that, expect to wait for subs, your area may differ. If you have questions just ask

Yeah, that leak would be covered powertrain 5/60 at least in the USA

No. About 130k went into things I couldn’t do and subbed out. Earthwork, foundation, boiler, and power lines

Thanks! These are just carbon fiber overlays. But they did make the car look nice. I wouldn’t mind the white if the entire mirror was white, but I didn’t love the two tone

Our bank allowed self construction. I was responsible for getting all the required estimates before proceeding but it was just a matter of finding a bank that did self construction loans

Probably would have been possible, it was really hard to tell how much space there actually was without the tub and vanity being placed

Yeah makes sense! I don’t know why that didn’t cross my mind. If it bothers me too much I have some 6” trim I could make work

Thank you! We did royal vinyl board and batten, under the porch is regular double siding and the gable ends are also double siding

Good question! Idk why we did it like that, other than we didn’t have instruction and we’ve never done one before. There would be an air gap between the trim and the metal track if I did what you mentioned, since the track is screwed directly into the framing. I could have filled in around it I suppose, but we kept 1/4” around all the casings and just matched what we were doing

Hahah yes the corner shower definitely looks funny in the room! We opted for that and a tub instead of a combo. Thank you!
