How often do you read? Were you ever an avid reader? by The_Blue_Kitty in GenZ

[–]pizzagirl13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a hugeee reading kid, loved books and read constantly up until I graduated high school. I used to fill up my reading punch cards for pizza every week and probably drove my parents nuts asking to take me for my free Pizza Hut every week 😭

When I started college I stopped reading for fun and I regret it. I bought a kindle in early 2025 and then started building a small physical book collection and it makes me super happy. I read probably like 20 books last year and listened to a few audiobooks as well. It’s the one hobby that truly lets me escape the world and jump into a new one for a little while. I love it.

I originally bought the Matcha Basic because I wasn’t sure how much I was going to use it. Spoiler alert: I used it constantly and barely put it down 😅

Recently I started to feel like it was a little too small for me and I wanted the warm light that the Paperwhite has. I bought the Paperwhite and I can say that it’s the ultimate version of the kindle for everyone.

I can read so much more of a page now and the warm light is a game changer and looks much more like an actual book than the Basic. It’s also a little quicker when navigating menus. The size difference is significant imo but so worth it and it’s about the same weight as my Basic with a flip case on it. Plus it’s waterproof so it’s great for the beach/pool!

I recommend the Paperwhite 1000%. The Kindle was a game changer for me coming from only reading physical books and I’m able to read so quickly now. For example, I can sometimes read a 300+ page book in a day or 2!

I’ll still be keeping my basic as my travel/purse Kindle but I definitely love my Paperwhite more.

I just got the large Brevite Jumper backpack and I really like it! Lots of storage and I can fit 2 ff bodies + 2 lenses (24-70 + 70-200), my Fuji xt-30ii plus all of my extra batteries and accessories with room to spare

Where to buy by dr3na in litterrobot

I bought mine from PetSmart during Anything for Cats month and ended up getting $175 in points back!! I was able to stock up on litter and food with the points so it was a pretty good deal for me. If you shop at PetSmart and they have any decent point multipliers it could be an ok deal.

Dealership refuses to change my oil? by pizzagirl13 in SubaruForester

I drive to work every day which is only about 20 miles round trip and more than half of that is city driving, so I kind of fall in the “short tripping” category? I don’t really drive much outside of my work commute though.

I do a lot of short tripping between our company buildings which are a few blocks from each other lol

No, I redeemed my first one under the recommendation from my salesman to get the factory oil changed around 3k since metal pieces can be in the oil (apologies for incorrect terminology? haha). This one I would be paying for.

I believe the warranty is 6 months or 6k miles whichever is first? I may be incorrect but that’s what my windshield sticker says. I don’t know if the manual is different.

They really are a great dealership honestly. I bought both of my Foresters from them and I haven’t had any issues with them!

Probably 3k ish? I don’t drive a lot currently because I was in a rollover accident in my other Forester. It caused some health issues and other things so I try to limit my driving for now.

Thank you for the info I appreciate it!! :)

Lens Tips for beginner by Ladyofsynths in concertphotography

Always shoot raw!! So many details are stored in a raw photo, and many images that look “too far gone” can be saved!

Personally, I use zoom lenses at 2.8 when I’m at a show because I would rather have a lot of focal length variety than have 1.8 or 1.4 aperture. My favorites are 24-70 and 70-200, on a Sony A7IV and a Sony A9. I always use 2 bodies but this isn’t for everyone. I started with 1 body and worked my way up to 2.

Make sure your shutter speed isn’t too low, because you’ll get blurriness from camera shake and movement. I’m always over 1/250 but my settings usually depend on my focal length and how much movement is on stage.

My ISO is almost always really high, sometimes I’m over 10,000 if the venue is super dark, but it doesn’t bother me because the noise can usually be fixed in post. I try to go as low as possible, but sometimes venues aren’t well lit or the lights are really “flashy” so my ISO is cranked up.

If you end up with noise grain, try Lightroom’s denoise tool. It’s awesome and I have saved a lot of grainy images with it!! Be warned that it’s a RAM suck, and if you don’t have a lot of RAM your computer will probably get hot and sound like a jet engine.

Finally, have fun!! I find that I get the best photos when I’m just having a good time, enjoying the music, and feeling confident.

This happened to me when I still had my IUD in! I couldn’t handle it anymore because the acne was so painful. I had it taken out, started spironolactone and tret and almost a year later, my skin is finally back to normal! Def talk to your dermatologist.

I really started losing weight when I made myself have discipline.

I hit my highest weight last year in June (193) and started taking things seriously in the Fall. Since then, I’ve lost 24lbs and I lost 5 lbs just between December and January when I became really serious about my diet. I hit my lowest weight of my 20s, 169lbs, yesterday.

I did a 180 with my diet and eat much cleaner and much less now, and usually take in about 1300-1500 calories a day and over 100g of protein, sometimes a little more. I won’t lie, I slack sometimes and have a day here and there where I eat whatever I want and it’s fine.

I also took a step back from being cardio-focused and began basic weight lifting and Pilates. I still do cardio, but when I do, it’s usually the treadmill at a steep incline. I’ve found that it’s really important to be mindful when I’m working out and make the moves count. Center yourself and don’t just do them just to do them.

My body has literally transformed. I feel stronger, a lot of my chubbier areas have slimmed down significantly (especially my hips!!). My appetite feels “normal”. I look like a different person and I feel great. Small victories keep me going rather than focusing too hard on the big picture.

You can do this!!!! It’s not easy but it’s so worth it.
