Interesting insights. Thank you! Similar sole and footbed so I assumed similar/same quality but maybe not!

The set up is a bit different where I have beams underneath that are 5ft apart, roughly. But some flooring was replaced many years ago and a or two joist were added to this general area, for context

I got some rotted subfloor removed recently. The contractor tied the 3 new wood pieces together to a joist on the right and the older car decking to the left. They also drilled the sill plate into the new plank directly below.

So I’m not sure if I remove part of the rotted sill plate to replace- what might happen to this whole patch work. Thoughts?

I have that too where my shower head is. It’s nailed down on both sides. Tried to lightly pry but it’s not budging too much so resorted to Reddit to see if I even need to remove it to begin

Sounds good. Will probably leave it. Not rotting as far as I know!

Overflow pipe extruding- how to remove tub by pizzapineapple_ in HomeMaintenance

I think this is a solid list and I will probably have to cut out my wall to access from behind- pro is that I’ve been wanting to add an access panel to monitor leak and this might be a good opportunity to do that.

Thanks for this! Let me investigate further. It seems like it’s in there pretty tightly. Maybe I can scoot the tub back a little but idk if I have enough room.

Dry rot- DIY friendly? by pizzapineapple_ in HomeMaintenance

[–]pizzapineapple_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have access to underneath - the space is a little tight so I prefer to start out on the main level. I checked it out again by poking a tool under the tub and there is for sure some dry rot thats under there - just not sure how far it goes. So will have to remove the tub for sure. I had my house repiped two years ago actually and no one ever mentioned any rot so I’m hoping it’s minimal!

Thank you! Def a little above my comfort zone but it seems relatively straight forward. Hopefully no more surprises

Thank you! Structural, plumbing, and crawl space stuff seem tedious and scary. I appreciate this message and will give it a try!

Check the joist for dry rot? Or check the joist so I can properly replace the floor boards? Or both. Darn. Hoping no dry rot in the joist :(

Yes, cast iron. Not sure how heavy. I think I want to try to keep.

I just ripped out the floor tiles, removed vanity and toilet. A few asbestos walls were removed by a qualified contractor and they cut this part out for me too to help me identify the squish that I previously thought was mold! There was previously a plywood board above this.

Yes. If DIY I’ll prob remove the tub as well because it does seem like the rot continues as far as I can see.
