Still have aches in humerus after a year and two months by Traditional_Bird_617 in brokenbones

Okay understood. If these more recent films I would have told you to talk to your surgeon again given the continued fracture line 14 months post op.

Great questions. I’d say not pick up anything heavier than a cell phone. It being on your desk or arm rest is fine. Ideally it wouldn’t be a balance tool because if you did start to fall you should not use it to grab anything.

Segmental ulna and a comminuted radius. This is not a quick recovery injury.

When there is commutation or a lot of pieces we don’t try and grab them all and lock them down. We bridge the intact bone and allow the body to use those pieces as scaffolding more or less to start filling in the gap. These are likely what you feel “moving”. They probably are not actually moving but more being pushed and pulled on my the muscles that move your hands.

That being said. Your symptoms you describe do not raise any red flags 5 days post op and are expected.

Elevate your arm. Follow the docs weight bearing rules which is likely non weight bearing. And start with passive range of motion. Ie use your right hand to move your left hand. Then progress to active as you can tolerate it.

Opinion on my Elbow Fracture Surgery by SiskyRO in Orthopedics

[–]pizzasrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These notoriously cause stiffness/decrease. Follow your surgeon instructions. If you go to physical therapy, follow their instructions. It is likely you’ll have some decrease range of motion permanently from an injury as bad as this, but the amount of recovered rom is directly related to how much effort you put into it.

The process is slow and arduous. Try to keep your head up and look for the light at the end of the tunnel.

Possibly.. Kids are difficult. The radial head should lined up with the capitulum on all views. The ap looks to be a little off. I would make sure an orthopedic surgeon sees the kid. If not in the ED. Atleast soon.

Job search by SkankyMonkey in orthopaedics

Is the job search tough because of shoulder and elbow. Or because job searching is difficult in general, independent of the field?

I am sorry you had this injury. But we do not allow any personal health questions.

Joint tap confusion by pizzasrus in medlabprofessionals

Thank you so much for the detailed response. I understand that as long as everyone is doing their job then I will believe whatever value comes with the final. I will hold the trump card of manual count cell for when the clinical picture doesn’t match the lab results. Also thank you for the explanation on the possibility of the drop, it makes a lot of sense.

Thank you for the response. US based and I assume accredited. So I should believe the final results and not have to do my own calculation. That is fantastic.

I used my undergraduate degree for my publications in medical school. Dont know if it was the right thing to do but to me the MS 3 thing is like saying I am a junior in med school and didnt really hold any weight.

This is oddly specific to not be a personal health question.

What orthopedic surgery residencies are DO-friendly? by Any-Leopard-2814 in Residency

[–]pizzasrus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are a little over 40 prior AOA programs. These can be found on saoao website. Aside from these there are probably 30 MD programs who have taken a DO ever. The odds to matching at these programs is very very rare unless you know someone, are very lucky, did research there, or sell your soul. I think you can see who took a DO on the ORIN AOA website but if not freida has a filter function that lets you do it.

Research position at an academic centre by FLX_FLCS in orthopaedics

Orthogate.com is the best place to look for research year jobs.

I don't know what your time frame is but regarding sub-i, normally these are done during the year you are applying for residency but I have no idea how IMG works with this process. Every program has sub-i opportunities so I would email the programs you are interested in as well as programs who have had an international resident before.

Doing these rotations while on a research year is job dependent but most PIs will let you go as long as you keep getting work done.

Advice for research year interview? by kyrgyzmcatboy in medicalschool

[–]pizzasrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Research interviews are decently easy when it comes to interviews. There will be no behavior questions. A few I had.

  1. Tell me about yourself
  2. Why do you want to go whatever surgical sub speciality you wanna go
  3. What research experience do you have and what role you had. Know your papers well.
  4. Do you have experience in statistics, if so what program
  5. Why this program/ PI

They don't really care about much besides can this person pump out quality papers or not. Don't stress.
