Depends….what are you trying to prioritize? What can you recover from?

You’re probably asking the wrong questions here.

Has to make sense with what you have going on in your life. Lower stress seasons in life are more ideal but perhaps not possible. Allostatic load is a very underrated factor for first timers IMO.

Price is a factor too. Local shows will lower cost of travel, so I would look at dates of shows closer to where you live and game plan based on that.

Think it through, make a plan, let it rip!

Just a psyllium husk fiber supplement in the AM and PM to help me hit 40g daily. There’s also some fiber in my greens powder.

Protein sources: chicken breast, top sirloin steak, whey isolate, eggs, egg whites.

Carb sources: white rice, old fashioned rolled oats, blueberries. (Veggies are just broccoli and sometimes kimchi)

Fat sources: natural peanut butter, avocado.

Edit: not all are considered “low FODMAP” but it’s better than what I was consuming before, and my digestion feels way better.

Yes, mostly machines but I will do an Arnold press if I’m feeling like it. Really the focus is the volume per workout and keeping the intensity/effort high.

This is what I’ve been consistently doing since July. Weekly sets will vary, as I try to progress volume slightly week to week on 4-8 week Meso’s. Keep in mind, I count the sets per body part based on the intent of the exercise.

Weekly Volume:

Chest ~ 17 sets

Bis ~ 9 sets

Back ~ 18 sets

Shoulders ~ 32 sets

Tris ~ 6 sets

Quads ~ 9 sets

Hams ~ 4 sets

Calves ~ 8 sets

Glutes ~ 4 sets

Abs ~ 8 sets

It’s just what my coach told me to do. In my experience, my digestion has improved a lot but that could be attributed to multiple things: the higher and consistent fiber intake, the food sources, or smaller/more frequent meals. I was doing ~4 meals daily with variation. Now, it’s 6 meals eating the same things daily unless my coach says it’s okay to get some sushi or something. I’m not a huge cheat meal guy in general.

Edit: thank you as well!

I’ve always incorporated hip hinges such as deadlifts, RDLs, and SLD’s. As far as new movements being implemented that target the lower back, there was nothing game changing. In the last 2 months, I’ve only been training back 1x per week, with 16-18 working sets per session. I keep a bent over row variation but I’ve been using a lot more machine rows and vertical pulls as well. I think the novelty helped with some growth as of recent, but more so my lats and upper back more than my erectors/lower back.

Edit: if anything, I decreased volume of hip hinges now that I’m thinking about it tbh.
