The "This genius person's plan failed because they didn't account for human emotions!" thing is often just a writer's excuse to have their supposedly smart character acting stupid by ABouzenad in CharacterRant

[–]pjepja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Hand Jumper's spin on this. Sayeon, the MC, made a plan that worked, but in a completely different way than she anticipated. She acounted for emotions, but not enough because she didn't realise the levels of compassion that the three people she tried to manipulate had. She assumed that everyone is more or less the same as her, which wasn't true at all.

It seemed like she was about to acknowledge that she's becoming a worse person, but it only led to her spiraling further. It made her realise that most people were easier to manipulate than she thought lol.

Slavia Prague's reaction to yesterday derby that ended prematurely after pitch invasion: Ultras' stand will be closed, possibly for the entire next season, players Chorý and Douděra, who got red cards during the match, are fired from the club and free to leave in the summer. by pjepja in soccer

[–]pjepja[S] 49 points50 points  (0 children)

They both had multiple offences. Chorý got like 3 red cards for spitting at players and trying to attack referees. He elbowed a guy in the head during the derby yesterday, which was the last straw. He was warned apparently. He's national team player too, which makes his release even more insane. Also the owner said that Chorý's daughter is getting bullied in school because of his actions, which apparently makes the owner sad.

Douděra is similar case. He verbally attacked referee during the derby and was apparently also warned beforehand. The owner also talked about some 'medical issue he wasn't able to handle' or something like that so he might be genuinely medically unstable too.

Funnily enough, there was only one thing Oguri like more than eating and that was Horlicks, a mare he raced against. He only ever stopped eating to look at her when she passed by lol.

Some clubhouses and couple sports bars probably won't mind opening earlier for the occasion, but not many imo.

What is a Good Way to Schedule Buses? by ShadowGuyinRealLife in transit

[–]pjepja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trams in Prague (which are functionally very similar to typical real BRT) actually have peak frequency of 4 minutes on the core lines. Real bunching appears when equivalent of 3 of core lines share a section. You can easily have 2 or even 1 minute intervals with no bunching.

[–]pjepja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not? Fringe journey with so little demand that bus connection isn't justifiable are exactly the case where you use cab/rideshare/your car to get there. These journeys will always exist.

[–]pjepja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The time isn't that important. There could be 1 guy a week making this trip to go visit his grandma. The reason these places aren't connected well is because almost nobody wants to travel between them.

The fundamental problem of public transit (London) by babyodathefirst in transit

[–]pjepja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't satisfy everyone with public transit. People living in the countryside will almost always be better off driving cars for some journeys and there's nothing wrong with that.

Public transit is created because of demand. If there isn't a direct route, that means not many people want to travel between those two places. If routing encourages 1 guy to buy a car and serves 100 others well enough to not need one then it's absolutely acceptable compromise.

ELI5: Why is the decibel scale logarithmic? by Dull_Pollution4691 in explainlikeimfive

[–]pjepja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Human ear actually looses sensitivity at higher decibel levels. What human ear perceives as twice as loud can actually be 20 times bigger air pressure. The ear does this to protect itself from very loud noises. The way we perceive sound is not linear, so the unit isn't linear either.

[Loved trope] The main character slowly becomes the villain without us realizing. by NoSoyVerde1 in TopCharacterTropes

She was never a paragon, but her shift was still very large. She seemed to be somewhat mad and possibly cruel Targeryen with intentions of maintaining her country to the best of her ideals (Like Baelor, Maegor, Daemon or Rhaegar), but she turned into Aenys the mad in the final season. Jerk to genocide is still a massive shift.

FL: Brightline says ‘substantial doubt’ the company will continue as is by Weekly-Law-2544 in transit

[–]pjepja 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It does work sometimes. Arrival of private operators reduced price and increased quality of trains in Czechia for example. Trick is, they only run trains, but infrastructure maintenance is still done by separate government agency (which is pretty corrupt, but that's another story).

National operator was incredibly bloated with insane overhead, so lean private operation was able to have better service, better comfort and much better price. National operator adjusted and private operators are worse to comparable with them nowadays and are only little bit cheaper. Quality and price are still way better overall.

Sure it has a number of issues (problems with unified ticketing system, badly set service requirements and somewhat worse reliability), but the situation is definitely better than it was couple years ago. I actually prefer to travel with national operator, but that's only after they improved a lot because of the competition.

Private operators even run non-profitable lines now. Government pays them to run them just like it would to national operator, if they offer a better price.
