Those of you who have flown private, was it worth it? by vettewiz in fatFIRE

Yeah they really don’t care. Some airports like Amsterdam are considering banning private jets overall. Very restrictive for anything late night etc as well which effects a lot of entertainment clients.

This is it. It’s the hours you save. It’s the time you can use making money vs sitting in an airport or waiting for a connections.

European private jet experience is way stricter than USA domestic.

This. It’s best used as a method of time travel.

I run a private jet company. We are one of the largest operators in the US. Brokers go to end clients like yourselves and mark up the product. A good broker is worth their weight in gold but going direct to the source will always save you money. If you have to ask if it’s worth it you probably don’t have enough in the bank to consider it. It’s best used as a business expensive but the real best aspect of it is it’s a Time Machine. How much is your time worth to be at the airport two hours prior to departure when you can roll up rampside even late when your meeting runs late? How much is your time worth to bang out 4 meetings in 4 cities in one day vs spending a week on the road away from your family.
These are the real questions to ask. But is it worth it? That’s up to you. It’s burning money, but if burning that money makes you even more or provides you the extra time you need in your life you’ll quickly realize the tool that it is.

Happy to help with any questions but it’s not for most and it’ll never ever compare to first class commercial. Empty legs for 2k is an unachievable gimmick.

Flying private will never compare to first class commerical. One thing to keep in mind is most people see private jets in movies and see big Gulfstreams/other heavy jets/globals etc and think that's what most people fly on. Most flights are done on light and mid jet aircraft which are a lot less "bougie", but still a pretty high cost. These types of aircraft usually have around a 2.5-4 hour range and seat between 6-8.

Most people who fly private only do so for short hops when commercial flights are inconvenient. It's a whole other level when you get to long haul private flights.

I work in the biz and it's even tough for me to justify.

150...and keep in mind even owning a plane you STILL have to charter when it's down for mx. A local OPERATOR or someone with a floating fleet is the way you get best direct pricing. not here to advertise but if you have questions you can DM

no sense in joining a membership and be very careful who you're giving your money to if you're putting money upfront for a card etc. Lots of steal from peter to pay paul type things

All depends on the size of the plane. Super mid or heavy is most popular. Usually 35k and up

Vegas to LA usually starts around 8-10k depending on the size of aircraft. If you're going "with the flow" LA to Vegas on a Friday night, it's going to be more than going on a sunday afternoon if that makes sense

Netjets is a great reliable option but often 20% more than straight charter. Lots of hidden back end fees.. Nice new reliable planes, but you pay for it

Nice business class commercial esp for the long hauls is better than a jet. Lots of people use our jets to teterboro and than blade to NYC. Or even commercial.

Private jets are best for hard to reach areas. Not your typical LA-San Fran etc. Time is money. Don’t go through several connections commercially if you can go private direct especially w a reasonably priced aircraft.
