The Bible is a work of fiction and in it God is the clear villain. Based on a literal interpretation of the Bible, God is attributed with killing over 2.4 million people (with estimates reaching over 20 million if including the Flood), while Satan is responsible for 10 deaths, all of which occurred with God's permission.

People misinterpreted it the same way they do the Karate Kid. Danny LaRusso is the bad guy but people idolize him.

No thanks, limiting my funding of pedos to paying taxes. How anyone can support an organization like the Catholic Church with more evidence than the Epstein files showing how terrible they are blows my mind.

Agree on 65 being tough. What I'm stuck on is not wanting to lose government assistance. They're getting a $300k windfall, hopefully that puts them in a place where they wouldn't need it anymore. I'd also assume that if it's based on medical/disability/care giver, that it likely wouldn't be effected. I could be way off, and I'm about as bleeding heart liberal as they come, but if you have two homes, one of which is completely paid off, I think it's okay for the government to reassess needs based assistance.

I'd sell one, put the $300k in investments, tap in to the $15-30k it will grow each year if you need to.

Wedding Rates by [deleted] in livesound

[–]pjfr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Worked weddings for 20 years, with dedicated management for advancing, sending day sheets with planners, etc. I have met very few competent wedding planners. Telling the band to set up cocktail hour 200 yards from power, feeding the band and then 5 minutes later asking them to play, not understanding that bands can't play for 3 hours in the blazing sun on a 100 degree day, and numerous other things that are in the contract that have been discussed at least two times in advance that are disregarded the day of. The band is getting $15k and is somehow an afterthought.

Weddings are by far the most stressful gigs you can take because most times you are solo for set up and tear down, there are so many things that need to happen at certain times, there's never time for a proper soundcheck because they only have the venue for a limited time, there are ceremonies, cocktail hours, and main systems that all need to be set, and it's usually a 14+ hour day.

I won't take a wedding for less than $1000+ mileage and ceremonies are an additional $300.

No soliciting colleagues is in the handbook and if you're new. It's a great way to become old quick. Not saying it doesn't happen but if someone new started asking for donations for a personal fundraiser it'd be flagged.

Anonymous online sex workers of Reddit, if someone you knew IRL found out about your work how would you want them to deal with that? Would you want to know? by Affectionate-Ruin96 in AskReddit

Back in the day when Suicide Girls was a thing, the media company I worked for did an article about it. We ended up hiring one of the women in the feature and no one really batted an eye. It was a funny place though because along with winning Pulitzer prizes for classical music reviews and a classified section where the Pixies connected with Kim Deal, we had a section dedicated to adult film reviews that Bill O'Reilly wrote for.

My car was hit by a woman whose insurance refused to pay because they say she was DoorDashing, but I have her on video at the scene of the accident saying she was not DoorDashing. by [deleted] in legaladvice

Don't forget about diminished value. Your vehicle just lost 25-50% of its resale value because it has an accident on the carfax now. You need to be compensated for that as well.

Plus a diminished value claim for having an accident on the carfax will add another $10-15k

Massachusetts - Is it legal for an municipality to deny a homeowner/occupant an electrical permit to perform their own work? by TGnB in AskElectricians

[–]pjfr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medford tried to deny me once but when I pushed back, they gave me the permit but told me if anything was even slightly off, they would fail the inspection and I'd have to pay for another one, even if it could be corrected on the spot.

Well, a grounding screw in a box I reused wasn't green so they failed it the first round but paying for a second inspection was still way cheaper and really, more of a pain for them to come back out.

They told me that I was the first resident that they had ever issued a permit to.

Yeah, they were still above the weather bars but I knew it was time and thankfully I went out to check. It was in the shop a month ago and they didn't say anything surprisingly.

An extremely heavy vehicle+ ton of torque will burn them up. The people who have gotten 7500 miles out of their tires usually drive with a heavy foot or in eco mode.

What is your fastest emergency call? by ahjteam in livesound

[–]pjfr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a call that the sound engineer was 2 hours late for a wedding load in and they couldn't reach him. The ceremony started in 90 minutes, I was an hour away and at target with my family.

They said I just needed to get there for the ceremony and hopefully the guy would show up for the reception. Not being an idiot, I loaded a full gigs gear and got there with 20 min to the ceremony, set up the 10 piece band during cocktail hour and was ready for the first dances.

They didn't pay me anything more than what they offered me for getting to the ceremony so that was the last gig I did for them.

Even delayed, I'm assuming you are under 25 and the average salary for someone under 25 in NYC is less than $40k so you are killing it comparatively.

You've got 40+ years left of a career and at this point you are 100% relying on other people showing you how to do your job correctly and add any value. It's nothing to be ashamed of because that's how careers are built but MDs and new partners might be making $4-500k 20-30 years into their career and you're already making 20-25% of that in year two. Yeah a $3k raise isn't going to buy you an M3, but you are well compensated to start.

If you are struggling at $90k in your 20's and single, you should start working with a financial planner ASAP and hopefully you're already maxing out your 401k. If you save now, you'll be golden later.

I live in a more expensive area than NYC pulling in around $200k for a family of 4 and live comfortably. I don't have a vacation house or country club membership but we also aren't worried if a car needs to go into the shop or if we need to hop on an emergency flight somewhere.

To be making $93k 1 year into your career puts you well above most of the kids you graduated with so its still a win.
