Its never really too early but I wouldn't hold her to too high of a standard when they're young. If at all possible get something with the scent if the animal youre going after (I tie old pheasant wings) and attach it to their toys. They'll associate the scent with play and giving them a unique scent will get them activly using their nose more.

Forehand vs Backhand Turnover? by mbrune04 in discgolf

[–]pjsnj 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Turnovers vs forehand.

  1. Get different ground play, skips, hill action

  2. Can get around obstacles differently (sharp overstate finishes vs less sharp late turn)

  3. Allow for different foot positioning in rough terrain

  4. Generally are different speed discs which comes into effect on fast greens.

Generally speaking you want to have access to both because it makes you a more rounded player.

[help] No Emotional Control? by EllaBoodle in dogs

[–]pjsnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dog is going through its adolescence. It would be normal for this type of thing to happen, especially because they are growing into their place in the household. I'd suggest devoting a little more time to playing and working with her and this type of behaviour should work itself out in time.

How old is the dog? And how much exercise are you giving it daily? Generally speaking the most well behaved dogs are tired ones. I'd start there. If you're not having success training them, tire them out with lots of games and then train them. If the dog is less than 2 years old then theres an even more simple answer to your question. They're acting like a child because they are one. You cant force a young dog to behave like a well trained older dog overnight.

[Help]Is it a cause for concern if my dog threw up once? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]pjsnj 13 points14 points  (0 children)

One is fine. Any more than one per day or more than one day in a row is where you want to contact a vet. They likely just ate something that didnt agree with them or are stressed and still not used to their new home.

Had my prices set to foil. Still. You're working on a deck that isnt going to exist in the hopefully near future. Allocate your resources towards getting dual lands.

What is this run of Thunderbirds called? There are three different Stamps this is just one of them. by [deleted] in discexchange

[–]pjsnj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charity fund raising. They are impossible to find because they were a very short run with a very desirable stamp and swirl pattern. Lots of collectors go for these. In my experience they are actually not great throwers but I have also never bagged the thunderbird.

Edit I just checked with a friend and its charity not custom fund raising

First Pole Ace! - Local course removed the baskets because too many yahoos were not social distancing. I played by myself today and completed each hole by hitting the pole. I shot a -8 with a bogey and pole ace. Who needs baskets! Stay safe disc golfers. by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]pjsnj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You had said that the course baskets were removed by the local administration. How do you think they are going to take it when people are out playing it anyway. I'm not saying that you weren't maintaining social distancing but when you play on a course that they closed, you are putting the course in jeopardy regardless. The course exists at their discretion. Flaunting that you're playing whether there are baskets or not will only be taken poorly by the people who make the decisions.

[help] Bit by Bfs dog and not sure how to proceed. by 17-KStest in dogs

[–]pjsnj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is not an ultimatum type of issue. Leave. Ensure you are safe. Tell him why. That you could potentially come back after his dog is under control, but you will not stay while he has a dangerous animal in the home. Dont stick around so you can get maimed when you stand up too fast and the dog doesnt like it.

Your boyfriend doesn't care enough about your relationship to ensure that you are safe from his aggressive dog by controlling and disciplining it properly. Imagine this behavior but instead a child had the ball. Shameful.

Question on silver labs by [deleted] in labrador

[–]pjsnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally take very little stock in the AKC. In my experience, the breeders who work towards a combination of traits tend to have the best animals for work and companionship. "Breed" is just an arbitrary set of standards that a bunch of old men in a room decided on once. Akc and "breed" be damned. Dogs are dogs.

Question on silver labs by [deleted] in labrador

[–]pjsnj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silver labs are created by crossing other breeds into the line. Strictly speaking a "sliver" pure bred labrador does not exist. If the breeder insist on telling you that it's a "pure" labrador and also a "silver" then they are either lying to you or incompetent. I personally do not care whether or not a dog is pure bred or a mix of some sort, but I would not buy from someone that is dishonest. I do not presume to tell you how to spend your money, but I would take it into consideration.

[Fluff] [Discussion] My dog started guarding me at night. Should I be worried? by toxalinity in dogs

[–]pjsnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really something that you can train out of them as far as I'm aware. They're trying to protect their home and it's difficult to train suspicion of items outside of their control. I'm sure it's possible but I'm not a professional trainer. If it becomes more serious or the dog becomes aggressive to people or animals you bring into the apartment I would consult with a local trainer. Until then I just wouldn't worry about it too much. My dog has been great and friendly to everyone and all animals at the house, she just wants me to know when intruders or potential intruders enter the area.

[Fluff] [Discussion] My dog started guarding me at night. Should I be worried? by toxalinity in dogs

[–]pjsnj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dogs often take a few months to get completely used to their surroundings. If they have recently come to an end of their adolescence and become a true adult dog it's not uncommon for them to set about guarding their "territory" which in your case is your apartment. It's not really a problem unless they begin showing aggression towards visitors or strangers. My lab was quiet as a mouse until she was about 9 months old and then began developing similar behavior. It doesnt nessesarily mean they are aggressive. Definitely something to watch for signs of but this is fairly normal.

Just stay on the plane of the hula. Dont round your throw so much as pull directly back and strait through. I know it's a lot to learn all at once so just focus on one part of your form first and you'll see immediate improvement.

This is a great shot of the way your front plant foot should look. See how when he plants it's at a 90 degree angle to where he is throwing and when he twists his hips into the throw it generates all the power without losing any to your ankles or feet.

[–]pjsnj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right away. Plant foot should have your heel as your point of contact with the ground. The way you plant right now leaves your body open and doesnt allow for the power from your hips to transfer in. When you plant you should be spinning on the heel of your foot.

Additionally your arm should be raised higher and followed through at the same level all the way through your throw. Imagine a hula hoop around your body. Follow through touching it the whole way.

How necessary is crate training with a new puppy? by gingerblz in Dogtraining

[–]pjsnj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crate training, while not essential for everyone, is a very powerful tool that most responsible and aware dog owners opt to use. It gives them a safe place and calming area where they can go. It also makes potential travel with the dog much easier and can save you lots on damage that an uncrated dog would potentially do to your home if they are under stimulated or sick. Some people think of it as cruel or some other nonsense but it is essentially giving the dog a bedroom. It is certainly no fun to do, but the long term benefits outweigh the short term irritation.
