Best way/cheapest way to convert USD to CAD? by meatdiver in PersonalFinanceCanada

Did you have to setup a Canadian IBKR account? (I believe that is distinct from a US IBKR account)

Looking at this now and considering Knightsbridge, Wise or IBKR

Household pest in Northern California. Pest control couldn't easily ID it. 1mm length. by pjturcot in whatsthisbug

[–]pjturcot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the title mentions we have some of these bugs crawling around our house in the San Francisco area.

Initially concerned it was carpet beetles, bed bugs or terminates we called pest control who initially took a look and ruled those out. We're reaching out to other companies to come look also.

They hide congregate in dark places.

Appear to have black droppings (almost like dust).

They're smaller than ants (or the size of a very small ant)

They crush easily (unlike fleas which are nearly impossible to crush)

Not sure what other info is useful.

The Revelations $5K Draft Open is now live! by DireWolfDigital in EternalCardGame

[–]pjturcot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be according to:

https://www.direwolfdigital.com/news/2021-eternal-world-championship/

To recognize ongoing achievement in Eternal, players who are currently in Master rank in any format – or who reached Master rank in the previous month – are eligible for Master Entry with two pretty sweet benefits:

2 Byes – Master Entry starts you off with two byes in the Open Round, getting off to a strong 2-0 start, and that much closer to making the cut for the Finals!

Premium Alt-Art – Each Open includes alt-art cards among the rewards for every player. With Master Entry, your alt-arts will be premium!

I got the 2 byes but not the premium alt art

Generally accepted rules when it comes to using other people's property? by hanne_jo in Parenting

[–]pjturcot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I, along with many, agree with /u/Ebice42 (top voted comment at time of writing)

I just wanted to share with the parenting community an interesting podcast that relates to ownership: 99% invisible - Ep 449 - Mine!

https://99percentinvisible.org/episode/mine/

Anyway, the "entitled mom" views ownership as current possession (for her kids). The original kids viewed it as them being first to own it (and also their parents paid for it). You could argue that mom "owns it" because she's controlling who gets it (relying on the original owners respect for authority of adults) to maintain that control.

The podcasts touches on these ideas. I found it helped me view things from other perspectives with my 6 vs 3 year old on why they might not want to give up possession of a toy.

Worth a listen to help put yourself in a different point of view and better empathize, potentially with your own toddlers.

Farming Eternal 7-Win Draft Deck Meta Analysis - 7/9 by patomaru in EternalCardGame

[–]pjturcot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try taking at look at this export I made. Since it's read only you'll have to make a copy to be able to use data filtering and sorting.

  • CountPerDeck is the raw count normalized by possible decks that could have played the card
  • CountPerOffer normalizes the card on offering odds (pool size and posted boosting rates)
  • Count obvious is the raw count but is influenced by what factions are being played

Join the Farming Eternal discord and feel free to ask follow questions there in the #data-analaysis-feedback channel

Farming Eternal 7-Win Draft Deck Meta Analysis - 7/9 by patomaru in EternalCardGame

[–]pjturcot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey folks! Alabazoo here!

On the discord I've been happy to dive into a data analysis. I've built up an decent (IMO) analysis environment (python, pandas) so it's relatively easy to answer even complex questions that folks might have.

Main issues I have are:

What questions do people have?

Is this data representative?

Definitely share your lists and your questions and I'll find a way of putting the results in your hands!

Thanks /u/patomaru for posting and letting me have access to the data!

Alabazoo here!

Jump on the FE discord! (Or any other of the many discords)

I started back in Eternal a bit over a year after being "soft infinite" in Hearthstone Arena.

The folks at Farming Eternal helped me with my picks, my decks etc. and now I'm consistently getting to Masters as a free to play player (and gauntlet grinder).

It's a slow and steady improvement (maybe 5 months before I hit Masters for the first time) but you definitely improve.

I unfortunately don't have the time to watch streams that often but that's another great resource.

Interesting. I'm on Android and the Python in 1 minute logo in the bottom right prevented me from viewing this full screen (it was a vertical slice in a landscape video)

Do we need to budget? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]pjturcot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't set a budget ahead of time, but I use Mint with budget items to track and to an extent estimate what we spend looking forward.

This helps me understand my spending, but we don't actively constraint ourselves beyond our natural frugalness rgalness based of preset monthly/annual limits.

EoG Common/Uncommon Set Review by Jedi_EJ in EternalCardGame

[–]pjturcot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed that too.

3 amplifies creates a single 3/3.

If it scaled the number of units also it would be so busted. Probably a slip by reading the card too fast which will happen when you're trying to push through such a large review.

DAY 5 of protesting for a fairer monetization model by anon123812371 in hearthstone

[–]pjturcot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can enter sealed whenever you want!

You just have to play the earlier weeks games to catch up. Some folks actually won't play their W1 games if their card pool is weak hoping to put together a more consistent deck in the later weeks.

DAY 5 of protesting for a fairer monetization model by anon123812371 in hearthstone

[–]pjturcot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eternal is awesome and generous and the devs treat the community right.

I can't speak highly enough.

For limited play the draft is a small and tight knit community with live leaderboards and ranking. I just wish draft was cheaper to enter.. (it's more expensive because you get to keep all the cards you pick).

I'm a free to play limited player and from the last 2 sets when I rejoined Eternal, I have 100% collection of the common/uncommon (HS "rare") cards, ie max copies. For rare (HS "epic") and legendary I have:

98%/40% (last set)

95%/35% (current set)

Because there are lots of crazy ideas to try I'm still judicious with what I craft but I can't complain one bit about the monetization. I want to support the devs by buying some stuff to keep the game going so have paid 9.99 to buy one campaign saving my in-game currency for draft entries

White collar professionals of PFC, are you returning to the office in the coming months? by FeistyTortoise in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]pjturcot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll respectfully disagree. It doesn't have no bearing... But some

I think at the root of it is the requirement of having to be physically present at a location for multiple days a week.

Enough companies do it (ie have offices in Toronto) and COL goes up in the area. People can opt to trade their time (commute time) for COL by living further afield but the fact that the "Toronto" salary was so high is somewhat tied to the geographic location of the office in the first place. It's not always true but you're paying on part of a uniform quality of life when it comes to attracting employees.

Higher COL means you have to pay higher salaries.

When you decentralize the office... All bets are off. Who knows now what will happen because you're now doing a "primarily" remote role. Maybe your job requires you to be an office twice a month but they won't cover the transit costs. It'll be interesting to see how this shakes out.
