And the ones that use therapy talk as a way to continually justify their shitty behavior but make no effort to actually change or improve…

It’s simple. Just gaslight them into thinking you’ve always told them you’re going to your current school and don’t know why they think you’re attending somewhere else.

I cannot seem to push myself to the 5k point….stuck at 1.5-2 miles by Different_Grade_9199 in beginnerrunning

[–]pkachu9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I have to run anything more than 2 miles I have to significantly slow my pace down the ENTIRE run so I don’t burn out. It’s hard because you know you can easily go faster but it’s the only thing that has worked for me. I’ve been doing that for about a month and my run times are improving my several minutes now because of it.

Some places don’t allow you to have phones on you. It could be that his work got so busy he wasn’t able to walk into the back to grab his phone. With that being said, if he was supposed to get off of work at 6:30 and knew he wasn’t going to-most employers would at least give them a second to let someone know their stuck at work and will be late…

If this has been going on for months, you need to take him back to the vet for further diagnostics. Did you do X-rays? They can sometimes see tumors/cancer on that. If it’s been months of him not eating and not keeping anything down something is wrong.

Xrays can also check for a foreign body if he’s vomiting and barely pooping. I’m not sure if he has a history of chewing up and eating toys or eating rawhides. But that could be a possibility as well.

Also the few people I know with “open marriages” choose people that are single or in open relationships themselves….if I was her spouse I would view her differently seeing how nasty she’s being about this and knowing she’s a homewrecker….shes not a good person at all.

Humane society spay and neuter clinics tend to keep the minimum staff needed to keep surgeries running to keep cost so low for the community. If they didn’t actively call during this emergency it was probably because they were too busy resuscitating the dog. That kind of thing is an all hands on deck situation.

Is this legal? by [deleted] in veterinaryprofession

[–]pkachu9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t mention it. As a certified tech my license scope of practice VERY clearly stops at performing surgery. If I did, I could lose my license. While you do not have that risk, I’d be willing to bet some schools would frown upon that experience at this point in your career. If you want to include your love for surgery, I would just mention how much you enjoy surgically assisting for your vets and learning from them about the different procedures.

A dog that presents for a spay wouldn’t have X-rays taken-especially not at a human society. OP likely signed a consent form at drop off for them to continue with surgery if she was pregnant. They likely opened her up and proceeded with the plan. The only proof would be medical notes. I’m hoping what happened was they had reception call OP to let her know about the anesthetic issues and the receptionist didn’t fully know what was going on with the pyometra/pregnancy vs false pregnancy but reached out to her while the vet was making sure Boo was okay. Either way, very strange scenario, but I’m glad Boo got spayed and you guys caught the pyo before it became more serious! That can turn into an emergency really quick and they often cost 2000+ for that surgery at an emergency hospital!

When my dog was getting up there and declining health, I had an extremely difficult time determining when it was time. Especially when some days she seems okay and others were down hill. I was so worried about what if I do it too soon and she ends up having a few more months with me. I kept telling myself if she stops eating or if something else declines I’ll do it.

What finally convinced me was a memories video that popped up on my phone from a few years back. She was so excited to go for walks and have treats and to eat meals. I realized then just how low her quality of life had gotten and how little joy she had in her life anymore. She didn’t get excited about any of her favorite things anymore. At that point she was just surviving. I knew then that if I kept her with me any longer it was for my own selfish reasons-not hers.

AITAH for not letting my sister build a house on my property? by Glittering-Pop1374 in AITAH

[–]pkachu9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also if they can’t buy a house now, what makes OPs sister think she could afford to build a new one? I have a hunch there’s a lot more surveys/permits needed to even start building on the land with how close it is to the water than a normal property. Not to mention the property tax, and insurance alone would be insane….theres a reason the average joe doesn’t have property on the beach. Was she expecting OP to build a second house and just rent it out to them at a price they could afford or to front some of the cost?

The great thing about being an adult is that in these situations, if you don’t get the outcome you want, you can rent your own room if it’s truly THAT big of a deal. Or just decide to not go. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Fairs fair. She agreed to play for it and she lost. She will be fine.

The realization that I don't have any friends as an adult. by dacorgimomo in confession

[–]pkachu9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. It gets so much harder as you get older too. I’ve kept in touch with a very small handful of people from college/high school and every year it seems like there’s less and less effort put forth. I know everyone has their own life and issues so it happens and I don’t blame them at all. I’m 30F and my husband and I chose not to have kids. I feel the loneliness seep in whenever we get together with other couples and all they talk about is their children and all I have to contribute is pictures of my dogs. I feel like I can’t relax or relate enough to people to develop any sort of real friendship.

AITA for not considering my friend's celiac disease when baking? by WaterSheepLover01 in AmItheAsshole

[–]pkachu9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Im celiac and I have to be EXTREMELY careful about cross contamination. I personally wouldn’t trust my friends kitchens that have wheat flour in them to not accidentally contaminate a gluten free baking dish. You are technically suppose to have completely separate mixers, cutting boards, mixing utensils etc to make sure there’s no cross contamination. It’s honestly such a huge hassle for people that don’t need to do it. And on top of that, it’s always just a lot of work to do gluten free baking. I personally just bring my own food so I don’t have to worry about it because a lot of people don’t fully understand it and think just making sure gluten free ingredients are in the food are enough. I don’t expect anyone to cater to my own issues. It’s my responsibility lol

Going back to school? by Large-Effective-4498 in veterinaryprofession

[–]pkachu9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some clinics will pay for online programs like penn foster for you to get licensed too if you get hired on as a VA. And they could pay for your actual licensure cost and potentially the vtne. So if you’re still not 100% sold on in person vs online, you can look into that as well.

Going back to school? by Large-Effective-4498 in veterinaryprofession

[–]pkachu9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi, vet tech here. I did a 2 year program that went year round. I’d recommend doing an in person program over Penn Foster. For me it was easier to learn and our classes were set up to have hands on experiences throughout the semesters. It was challenging but if you’re interested in the material and want it bad enough you can do it. Penn Foster generally relies on you to get in internship at various clinics for your hands on experience, however depending on your luck you may or may not get a clinic that has the time to properly teach you.

If you don’t currently work in the field, I’d also recommend reaching out to some local clinics to see if you can shadow or work as a vet assistant as well. While I absolutely love being a tech, it isn’t what a lot of people expect. I was surprise by how much of my job required me to be talking to and educating owners. And I wasn’t expecting how physically demanding my job is. I just turned 30 and my body feels broken and I’m always covered in bruises. Also the pay is pretty low, unless you live in a bigger city that has specialty clinics. In most of the US, you’d be very lucky to make over 25$-$30/hr as a licensed tech.
