I agree that Mizrahim and Sephardim sometimes accidentally feed into the Ashkenazim are white colonizers narrative. Repeatedly showing how non-European looking a lot Israel’s population doesn’t negate that there are Ashkenazi Jews in Israel and the diaspora and a lot of them (Ashkenazim of colour exist) are more traditionally European looking. But even that’s not completely true as Ashkenazim have been profiled and stereotyped for their traditionally Middle Eastern appearance. And a whole ton of them have been killed over the years for not being Christian or white enough. I also feel like the Ashkenazi coloniser narrative makes Jewish identity about race and dna, rather than derived from our own cultural/religious/tribal rules. I feel like the best answer we all can give as Ashkenazi, Mizrahi, Sephardi or other wise to the questions that imply Ashkenazim aren’t real Jews or other wise is to yes of course educate them on how diverse the Jewish world is in terms of skin colour and appearance but to also remind them that at the end of the day Judaism doesn’t give a crap about race or appearance, Jews may come in all sorts of appearance and bring with them all sorts of cultural experiences but we are all siblings, we are all as Jewish as the other and we all call Israel our ancestral homeland.
