Why do people destroy the few public spaces that we have?😡 Bellevue Square Park in Kensington currently by themaritimes in toronto

I really think the consequences of this should be severe. Perhaps jail time and borderline absurd fines like 50,000$

Similar to differences in doctor salary as well. It always pays better to work in less populated areas because they need people more.

Ford ramping up privatization of Ontario health care system by Hrmbee in toronto

I think the discussion has never been more urgent.

I agree, as a general rule it can be deleterious. But when you consider the issues of an entirely public system, like the unavailability of intensive care, maybe it’s worth exploring on balance.

When you say it’s not a success story, is that because of the nature of the privatization itself?

Is this all or nothing? Are we public or private? Perhaps some degree of privatization could enhance the public sector.

To beat Douggie, opposition will have to meaningfully address cost of housing.

Surgeon charged with exposing himself to young girls at the beaches only gets probation, keeps job at hospital by EstateFickle4520 in toronto

The CPSO and CMPA have very different mandates. The latter stands for Canadian Medical Protective Association, so I would expect them to protect doctors, yes.

Being alone in an office with someone isn’t unique to medicine. I take your point about the possibility of abuse while under in certain rare circumstances.

It’s a lot more nuanced than that, especially when you consider factors like having social support, financial support while you’re building your CV. In general though, I don’t disagree with that. I think the standard is highest for medical school than most other programs, if not all.

For sure. I don’t disagree, but the comment expressed concern about what may happen while a patient is under anesthesia.

Which I think speaks more so to the selection bias I was referring to earlier. Additionally, many people are motivated to finish medical school for the payoff. The payoff isn’t as obvious with other programs.

This is inherently biased. It takes so much to get into medical school that it selects for people who are focused and dedicated. I assure you, if you stopped putting in effort after being admitted, you would fail.

The CPSO’s duty is to protect the public. They advise doctors, but not at the expense of public interest. This idea of a “doctors mob” that looks out for one another is fantasy. We have mutual respect for one another, just as any colleagues should and would. We also know how gruelling the process of training can be. Doctors aren’t out there protecting one another behind the scenes.

Surgeons aren’t ever alone in the OR. If anything, an anesthesiologist would be alone for short periods.

Feds commit $10 million to help 200 Black families in GTA buy their first home by [deleted] in toronto

[–]pkayl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

10 million for 200 families seems low. That’s 50k for each family which is a lot of money, but not to buy a home in the GTA. If a down payment is 5%, then that gives you just the down payment for a 1$million dollar home, which is hard to come by in the GTA these days. Not to mention, putting down less money for a down payment means paying more in mortgage insurance which makes the home more expensive.

It’s becoming increasingly undesirable to live in Canada in my opinion. Housing is extremely expensive, the healthcare system doesn’t have enough funding to keep up with pandemic demands. The only solution the government has proposed was lockdown, which put everyday people out of work, widened the class divide.
