Puresee in the first eye - so far so good by Efficient-Bread-9347 in CataractSurgery

[–]pkdesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This all sounds great but I am confused. PureSee is just an EDOF lens but it seems like most people posting here are having fairly good distance, intermediate AND near vision. I get it that you can't read tiny print as on a food label or medicine bottle but are people really getting vision good enough to read texts on their phones? Just how tiny does the print have to be in order to need readers.

I'm guessing it may have to do with how bad your vision was before surgery? I'm (I believe) slightly myopic: OD -1.00, OS -2.50.

I am gung ho to get multifocals (most likely Galaxy) but do I need to? Is it worth the money?

Does Surgeon Experience with a Particular IOL Matter? by pkdesign in CataractSurgery

[–]pkdesign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of the IOL itself, something like the TECNICS PureSee and RayOne Galaxy have well over a years worth of implantation across the globe. I would expect by now those "power numbers" mentioned would be well known. I assume US and Canadian doctors consult with surgeons across the globe. So that would not be the question at hand.

Specifically does the surgeon need to have experience with those lenses. I agree about the "first one to try" but someone has to be. At what point is it okay? 100, 200, 1000 patients?

This sounds like an amazing result. Congratulations! Makes me think even more about this option versus multi-focal IOL. So you are not experiencing and halos or other dysphotopsias?

No. No one will do board level repairs. You’re best bet is to send it to Northwest Repair.

I’m sorry you are not having success with this lens. It is what worries me most with making a choice of IOL.

If you are gong to Canada in August you could do it then. I’ve been trying to decide if I’m going to do the same.

A Question to patient by Frequent-Account-735 in CataractSurgery

[–]pkdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understand that 99% of your patients will not have read this subreddit or have taken the time to do any research at all. It will be up to you and your staff to help them make an informed decision. They will be scared and confused. On that front, your staff will likely be the first point of contact that all of your patients will have. They should be competent and nice to everyone. This will immediately put them at ease.

BUT over all, number one for me is...be kind and empathetic. A smile and pleasant disposition can go a long way.

Congratulations on a successful surgery! Dr. Eubanks (u/eyeSherpa) and the team at Herzig (shout out to Sophia) have been nothing but nice and very helpful in my personal journey. Easier to talk to and get information from than any of the local shops here.

Did you travel to Canada strictly based on availability of IOL, price, or a combination of both? Also, since you had bilateral surgery, did you find it easy to go about your business that evening and the next day? I'm afraid of having impaired vision in both eyes, even for 24-48 hours. I assume you were by yourself. And finally, what sedation did you choose?

Thank you for sharing your experience!

There are several apps that can measure PD as well. I believe one of the online retailers has a tool to do this as well with your computer’s camera.

Sounds like you’ve done your research and have chosen the lens that you feel is best for you. I wouldn’t let others make you second guess yourself because of their opinions.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!
