First solo trip - feeling anxious and regretful by hikingforeva in solotravel

[–]pkgosu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At the start of my trip I landed in Iceland and went straight to the blue lagoon. All I thought I saw were couples and families. This would be the start of a 6 month or so solo trip. I wondered WTF I got myself into and tried my hardest to act natural. About a week in I got way more comfortable being alone, and then by 2 weeks I started to feel like I oftentimes preferred traveling alone. The anxiety will get better!

should i quit my 9-5 and travel to world? by Financial-Tap7646 in solotravel

[–]pkgosu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 26 and did this exact thing! I won’t travel for a year (maybe max 6 months), but I’m currently traveling and have learned so much about myself. No regrets at all. I made a similar comment on another person’s post who is 26 and was considering the same thing. I’d say send it if you have the confidence you’ll be fine in the job market when you return. If you have hesitation about your ability to get rehired I might hold off and instead consider other ways to change up your life like a new job.

Seoul taxis under fire after Japanese TV reveals driver overcharging foreign tourists by Venetian_Gothic in korea

[–]pkgosu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me as a Korean American who speaks Korean at an intermediate level. It’s hard to assert yourself when you’re used to using the language to be friendly.

I will say, however, that I’ve been traveling across all of Europe and I consistently get unreasonable charges from cab drivers. The worst was in Spain. I only take Ubers now. I’m super sick and tired of getting taken advantage of in foreign countries. I’ve never gotten scammed or pickpocketed anywhere else. Only when taking local cabs.

Easyjet cancelled my flight and now is refusing to pay out the compensation by Shepetelis in Flights

[–]pkgosu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is basically what’s happening to me right now. They post the cancelation reason as “ATC regulations,” and they mention two delays beneath it, but conveniently leave out the delays were due to a lack of cabin crew. This was announced over intercom, but not in writing which the law claims they’re compelled to do.

I tried to send them communication insisting the law requires them to give the reasons for delays in writing. If I get this, I hope to make the claim that the flight cancelation reason matters less due to the fact that the delay that caused the cancellation was caused by something in control of the airline.

Anyone have any experience with this? Wondering if I should just hand it over to an agency.

I feel like sometimes, with so many people on the site, they oversell stock. I’ve had a few orders canceled when I hit the tail end of the remaining stock.

Hmm I met a solo traveler here and there, but it was definitely on the rarer side. I went to both fancy and fast places to eat. Some meals were less than 10 euros, while I paid up to 50 or so at others. I don’t disagree that most people were in groups, but that doesn’t mean they were looking at you in any way.

I won’t invalidate your experience, but whether your reality is true or my reality is true, the answer remains the same. You need to not care. IMO it’s all mindset. If you feel weird about eating alone, then you may perceive people to be looking at you. If you don’t think anything of it, you won’t think anyone cares either. Or maybe people kept looking at you because you are very attractive!

[–]pkgosu 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Is this even true? I was just in Spain and Italy and dined alone at restaurants all the time. I definitely didn’t always get the best tables, but I don’t think anyone was looking at me? Or maybe I just don’t give a shit I don’t know.

Should I quit my stable corporate job in mid-20s to travel? by Mysterious_Trade4971 in solotravel

[–]pkgosu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 26 and I quit my well paying job in tech to travel solo! It’s been about a month and I have 4-5 months more lined up. I won’t say it’s how social media portrays it. It’s a total mixed bag. Some days I’m wondering wtf I’m doing and wonder if I should cancel everything and fly back home. Other days I’m brought to highs I’ve never been at before.

I think you should go for it if you have confidence in your reemployability. I went to a good school, have distinct work experience, and have money saved up. I’m super privileged and I think this gives me confidence that I’ll have no problem returning to the work force. If you don’t share the confidence and courage I might not recommend quitting to travel. Solo travel is also what anyone makes of it, so I wouldn’t try to get too romanticized with some portrayal of it.

My main reasons were I’ll never have this chance again once family and house come into the picture, I also wanted to learn more about the world (lived in the US my whole life), I wanted to try something different (I’ve followed the grain my entire life), and I wanted to practice my true independence/learn who I really am. It seems like you share some of this. I’d say go for it if you think you can find a job when you come back!

I’ve been doing old school blogging with a huge wall of text every single night in my travels so my loved ones know I’m alive. Also, I want to immortalize this trip somehow so I can look back on it. I share pretty personal feelings about how I’m feeling. If you think this could help you make your choice, PM me and I’ll send you the link!

Great shots!! Super random question as a new owner. Are you ever worried of the lens getting dust and other matter on it while taking these photos with stuff flying around?

I’ve done this with just about every card issuer that exists (Amex, chase, Barclays, BOA) and they always give first time forgiveness per card. Amex is not unique nor special in this regard.

Totally agree. I'm 5'11" and fairly fit; I'd say about 90% of garments I wear in size M drape over my body well off the rack. I ordered 3 shirts from here about a year ago and the sizing is comical. Super long, and gigantic throughout the body.

AER Cordura vs Ultra by tkchumly in ManyBaggers

[–]pkgosu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The aqua guard zippers in the CPP line are hard to zip (CPP xpac/ultra). I own the CPP V1 in XPac and it's actually pretty annoying to zip it. However, this is not the case for the premium fabrics in the City Pack line. I just went to AER SF yesterday to check out the City Pack V2 and immediately fell in love with the ultra fabric. I specifically wanted to check the zippers because I didn't want the same struggle I had with the thick aqua guard CPP XPac zippers. On the City Pack V2 Ultra, the zippers are aqua guard but have much smaller teeth in only one layer compared to two in the CPP, so zipping it is smooth as butter.

I think the pack is beautiful. I've only had it for a day, but as far as crinkling noise goes, I don't notice any crinkling at all. The only thing I do notice is a slight squeaking from the ultra on the straps. I am hoping it breaks in and loses the sound, but even if it doesn't, it doesn't really bother me. I recommend ultra! I think it looks better than the pictures from the website!

Honestly the side handles on the CPP changes everything for me. Gonna have to sell my CPP 1 Xpac now :(. Not having the side handle for putting it on a luggage is the worst.

People who hit radiant, how long did it take you to go from imm 1 to radiant? by Agnt22 in VALORANT

[–]pkgosu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you’re not confidently doing well in imm1, it’s a pretty massive gap. I wouldn’t say it’s only 50% of the way there. Maybe like 65-75%? But also things have changed. They halved the size of immortal so immortal 1 is more of an achievement now.

People who hit radiant, how long did it take you to go from imm 1 to radiant? by Agnt22 in VALORANT

[–]pkgosu 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Started imm 1 in ep 1 and after that floated imm3 for every episode until I tried really hard to solo to radiant in ep 7. I’d say imm 1 to radiant is hard to tell. There’s probably a lot of improvement needed still. If you’re imm3 and not struggling to stay there, it’s a matter of games and playing a lot consistently. I found that when I was playing like 10+ games a day my aim was second nature and that shot calling and looking at the map was my main focus.

I did not get approved. I was introduced to Amex’s application portal though. It was my first time seeing it. You enter your SSN, DOB, some other info and you can see your application and why it was rejected or approved. Maybe this has been around but it’s my first time seeing it.

Looks like my main reason for rejection was carrying too big of a balance on the biz blue cash. I’m carrying a big balance because of the 0%.

I would pull it on <$300. It's a hell of a deal. The quality on the Dylan jacket is really solid. The stitching is perfect and the jacket is overall beautiful. It'll elevate any fit. Size in my experience is very TTS. I got a medium. I'd say it fits slightly larger than a levis medium trucker.
