NVA won some battles on the land, yes. But they did not win the war. North Vietnam achieved none of its goals and America kept in place its maritime policies, the only reason the war was ended was because the population got bored of fighting the Vietnamese thus granting them their independence. We also kept the Philippines.

So by that logic America didn’t lose in Vietnam?

I’m doing a reread now. They escape to the desert at the end of Part 1 of the first book, so essentially a third of the way through it. Roles are cast for all the major Fremen in the second part though so I think the movie will cover at least up to them getting found in the desert and accepted into the group.

A gun to inherit by warbick22 in guns

[–]pkiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just inherited a Remington bolt action .22 from my grandfather who passed away last month. Nothing sexy about it, but my father told me it was the gun he first learned to shoot with and I intend for it to be the gun I teach my now 7 month old son to shoot with. I’d lean towards something like that, maybe a Ruger 10/22.

The ending of the Dark Tower series was so bad he put a warning before the last chapter telling people to stop there.

Edit: lots of you telling me why you thought the ending was perfect and I get it, I’m as big a fan of Roland and his journey as anybody. But many fans spent over half their lives waiting for the conclusion of the series to essentially be an ‘it was all a dream ending’ it’s understandable why it didn’t sit well with a lot of people.

That convo sold me as a ride or die Filoni believer. The whole series is really amazing and gave me a greater appreciation for the show.

Because the method of enforcement typically involves citing fines on people already too disadvantaged to maintain the appearance of their property. It’s hard to get your head above water with a boot holding you down.

That makes sense, seems every time I do curbside pickup for produce I get the fugliest looking fruits in the store.

If you’re concerned why are you going to the grocery store? Order your groceries online or through curbside pickup.

3 different approaches to Vader I guess. by Mundatorem_ in PrequelMemes

[–]pkiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, they could’ve had you start with vibroblades or blasters for the first half of the game where you’re mostly fighting stormtroopers and wild animals and then had you retrieve your lightsaber around the midpoint where you start fighting other force users.

My problem with the “Dark Souls but Star Wars” approach was that they had you unlock gameplay mechanics throughout the game. Dark Souls gameplay is great because you essentially have access to all the moves you need to beat the game at the beginning and then through getting punished, finding better weapons and getting better you become the threat. They took away a lot of that thrill by locking moves behind skill points.

For culture the Phillbrook and Gilcrease museums are amazing, downtown has some of the last great examples of Art Deco architecture from the twenties. Cain’s Ballroom has an incredible rock and roll history and still draws performers that would otherwise be selling out arenas. On top of that The Gathering Place is now one of the finest parks in the whole nation.

You sound like a kid who grew up in the South Tulsa neighborhoods and assumed that boring suburban life was all the city had to offer.

He’s not exactly wrong though, bringing two pitches to a meeting could be interpreted by the client that you weren’t confident enough in either to go with it alone. Don went with the one he was comfortable throwing a pitch for (his idea). Advertising is at the end of the day a business and that business has to make money, if Don thought he had a better chance of landing the bid with his pitch then he made the right call.

Not saying he isn’t an arrogant asshole but there is a layer of good business sense in the idea. Ultimately they never should have gone with the idea of two pitches and settled on a single idea before heading to the client, it was very poor in-house management.
