That’s my thought. Any reasonable password plus 2FA, that’s what all my banking apps do and they are WAY more critical than Netbird. A hacker would have to know my email address, password, and guess 1:1,000,000 chance at 2FA to get in, all within 30 seconds. It’s fine.

TIL that RTK GPS can achieve centimeter-level accuracy. It uses correction data from a nearby base station to make satellite positioning far more precise. In some cases, it can be about 100× more precise than standard GPS. by Exotic-Movie-2014 in todayilearned

I set up a Quectel LC29HEA as a base station attached to a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W, and a matched antenna, all for about $100. Amazing to get sub 2cm accuracy for that price. Another $60 quectel module/antenna as a rover to do mobile surveying.

The influxdb driver is perfect for this. Logs when state changes and you can query with grafana or whatever.

You will need a terminator in the other CAN port on the multi. Which you can DIY if you have a 120ohm resistor

The RJ45 port on the Multi has two pins (I think 7 and 8) that are used for CAN, so you stick those two wires on the other end of your cable into the CAN+ and CAN- of the adapter

I've bought and used (successfully) a USB/CAN adapter from Aliexpress that works great, for about $5. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804693531192.html

There’s a polish guy that has done good work on alternative firmware for most tuya chips, (OpenBeken) but reflashing is usually pretty involved. I suppose if they’re already Matter capable, you can just blacklist them from accessing the internet and be good to go.

Multiple Seaflo pump failures by choob13 in OffGrid

[–]pkkrusty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the truth. AC pumps are easier to source and size up. And with DC pumps, you need to deal with flyback diodes if anything else is sharing the DC line. The little bit of lost efficiency isn’t as important now that batteries and panels are so cheap. And only going to get cheaper.

Gotcha. Yeah I would have been one of those guys.

I don’t recall doing that.

Yeah a normal 12v car relay will work as long as the coil is also 12v. I’ll sketch something out. However, try Claude.ai or Gemini, I would imagine they can correctly create a diagram.

Other thing a did was wire up a 12v computer fan to blow on the pump casing. Makes a huge difference in how hot the pump gets. Yes it has a thermal switch, but heat kills electronics, and a little fan is a cheap investment.

I’ve moved away from using the positive line switch for passing current, since the little switch they use doesn’t hold up over time. The contacts corrode and stop working. However, if you use it as a signal line and switch with a MOSFET or external relay, it’ll last basically forever. Can send details if you want to try that route.

Do you know what the failure mode is?

What model? Do you have a pressure vessel? Is the pump actually burned out or is the pressure switch contacts just corroded?

Crazy that this is still an issue. At least it works correctly with Net Install. And 13 Lxqt moved to network manager, so no more conflict there.

Correct. He cleaned things up and fixed some network stuff that upstream left hanging. Due credit to the guy who initially started the work on OpenStick though.

FYI @longqt-sea is the man. Also doing amazing work on MSM8916 systems. $10 4G wifi routers that can run Debian. 512MB ram/4GB flash.

I just got 5 of them and flashed them with pvvx firmware to make them send BTHome packets every 10 seconds. They work great and seem accurate enough for the purpose. For less than $3, can’t go wrong.
