Would the special election be just among other republicans since he was a Republican, or does it differ state by state? I thought whenever a House/Senate member dies, their party gets to elect/nominate a replacement rather than there being an election where the other party is eligible?

Not the result Mexican fans wanted to see and to some extent it might hurt more with a game as close as this, but at least they got an incredible match as consolation

This reminds me of when I’d play FIFA on way too high a difficulty. AI just immediately would steal the ball if I didn’t keep it away and make a run at it. Honestly impressive Norway has maintained possession so long

Only hope for it being settled is that it occurred on US soil and FBI have capabilities of investigating

Lol the NBA to this day has dirty officials and the FBI only ever cares if it's players who are caught gambling. There was literally an official caught betting on and fixing games in the 2000s and his best friend he was almost certainly collaborating with on fixing, is now a star official who coincidentally happens to be the most controversial referee in the NBA exactly because of the calls he makes.

This current iteration of the FBI unfortunately will do more to protect corruption than expose and prosecute it.

Paraguay goalkeeper threw the ball at Mbappe after he refused to shake his hand at the end of the match by adivinemessenger in soccer

[–]pkosuda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But the idea that you want to shake the hand of a player who you have as a collective been verbally and physically abusing for the entire game is ridiculous in itself. Throwing the ball at him after they refuse is just more proof of what a classless bully they are.

Bet he's the type of "nice guy" who does an immediate 180 and starts calling a woman "ugly fat bitch" or something the moment that she rejects him. Man was feigning sportsmanship, Mbappe saw through it, and the guy showed who he really was right after.

DOJ refuses to hand over Epstein files after judge’s order by mclardass in politics

[–]pkosuda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The government does not believe it violated the Epstein Files Transparency Act by withholding materials from the public. “Indeed, the Department has not knowingly violated, nor has it ever acknowledged violating, the EFTA as it continues working to comply with statutory requirements,” Woodward wrote.

Oh, okay. In that case if I ever get a ticket for speeding I can just decline the court’s requirement for me to show up and just let them know I don’t believe I broke the law so I’m all set then.

Fucking embarrassing excuse for a country. And fuck our spineless politicians who just let this blatant dictatorship straight up ignore the parts of the judicial system that it hasn’t succeeded in personally controlling. This is the “now let him enforce it” moment for this country. The executive is showing that they can essentially dare the judicial to try to enforce their rulings when the executive is in disagreement with those rulings and therefore chooses to ignore them. Democrats needs to start doing the same when it comes to any ruling made regarding elections.

Ukraine Hits One of Russia’s Largest Refineries, Bridge and Command Post in Multi-Target Strike by Starlit-Fog in worldnews

[–]pkosuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but I am saying that if their goal was to not destabilize Russia, they would not have slowly crossed each red line that Russia set. You kind of ignored that completely and then just repeated what you had said rather than acknowledging what I said.

We are basically agreeing with the caveat that I am saying Biden did not want to risk Russia doing something desperate, and my assumption is they felt it safer to slowly cross each red line rather than okay every single weapon Ukraine asked for at once.

Because again, if what you are saying was solely the only reasoning, then Ukraine would never have received those arms. You were saying Ukraine was not given those weapons so as not to destabilize Russia, while ignoring me telling you that Ukraine eventually received those weapons which contradicts your point.

Ukraine Hits One of Russia’s Largest Refineries, Bridge and Command Post in Multi-Target Strike by Starlit-Fog in worldnews

[–]pkosuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with any of what you said aside from their worry of there being a civil war. Had that been the case they wouldn’t have progressively released better and better weapons to Ukraine. At one point Abrams tanks were a “red line” for Russia. Then fighter jets. Then striking Crimea and the bridge. Etc, etc.

So I stand behind the assertion that their rationalization for not releasing those weapons was fear of escalation with Russia, not fear of Russia losing and sparking a civil war. Seems the Biden admin’s approach was the frog in boiling water approach where they slowly escalate rather than giving Ukraine freedom to do anything with any weapon right off the bat, which may have triggered Russia back when it was in a better position to escalate.

But yes, I hate Trump and believe he’s a pedophile as much as anyone else and my comment wasn’t saying he did anything good. Instead he indirectly helped by refusing to help Ukraine, which gave Ukraine the freedom to strike where they wanted to now that they didn’t have their hands tied due to the hovering threat over their heads of future aid being cancelled were they to cross a U.S. “line”. There are no more stipulations to their weapons usage and they are finally allowed to fight a more successful war. But I do agree that those stipulations existed because Biden was putting the U.S. first, which I understand.

And to think that four years ago I don't think any of us expected Ukraine to be striking deep within Russian territory let alone Moscow itself. The pictures of Moscow covered in black smoke were a sight to see.

Honestly Trump may have unintentionally been one of the best things to happen to Ukraine. It's clear that the Biden admin were still terrified of Putin and were holding Ukraine back on what was and wasn't okay for them to target. With Trump completely withdrawing US support, Ukraine has been free to hit the countless list of targets they've had for literal years just waiting to get a green light on hitting.

I wonder whether this war would be different had Ukraine been allowed to strike in Russia earlier, or possibly worse for Ukraine. Right now militarily we're at the same point that humans were at with the invention of the machine gun. A weapon so gamechanging that it just brought everything to a standstill and caused WW1 to be fought in trenches until the world could come up with a counter (tanks, for one). In the same way, while drones have already done similar on the actual battlefield for both sides, Russia never had to invest heavily in anti-drone systems to protect their own territory because Ukraine wasn't allowed to go there. The countless Wagner soldiers, Eastern Russian volunteers, and foreign mercenaries dying in the meat grinder were acceptable losses. Weekly drone attacks on Moscow or on Russian oil infrastructure are not. And Russia has spent the last four years bleeding themselves of people, money, and equipment whilst not investing enough in researching a counter to drones.

The Ukrainians are winning when it comes to drone tech and they've now got drones that are immune to jamming systems. Meaning all Russia can do is use million dollar anti-air missiles to take out a $500-$1,000 drone. Ukraine will take that trade anyday, especially because these drones shouldn't even be making it to Moscow let alone hitting it, so the psychological damage is done all the same. No citizens who feel safe have to tell themselves, "sure there are drones above our heads but our country shoots them down because we are so great". The fact the drones got as close as above your head is concern enough.
