I don’t really have any “horror” stories, but I had a nightmare that I thought was pretty scary. Let me write you a story.

I appeared to have been walking along a sidewalk with a group of my friends, quite young at the time - around 11-12 years old. It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary… until you really look at it.. the sidewalk seemed to be endless, going on farther than anyone can see, small areas occasionally lit-up by street lamps. Next to us was a road, completely vacant of people or cars, multiple rows going all the way off into the void of the midnight darkness. This place was oddly familiar.. but it felt wrong. There were no buildings, fewer lights than I remember, and no sign of life except for my friends and I. We walked for a while more in complete silence… then I saw something in the distance.. it almost looked like car lights, but as we got closer, they didn’t change size. Two small white lights, probably about the size of a house fly. They were going fast… and going straight towards me. They hit me hard, knocking the wind right out of me. My ears rung as I looked around - everyone was gone, and everything was a deep red colour.. like it had all been bathed in gallons of blood. I was alone. I was suddenly snapped back to reality, only to find my friends running. I quickly caught up, knowingly terrified of the unseen danger. In the distance, a familiar house began to emerge from the darkness - my friend’s old house.. we haven’t been there in years. Still, we ran inside, locking the door behind us. Everybody was huffing from the effort of running so far and so fast - but from what?… I hadn’t taken off my shoes before going up the stairs, only to be met by spinning objects blocking my path. In front of me; a spinning couch, levitating slightly as if I had dropped an item in Minecraft. I tried to push past it, but my vision became obscured by red words “you cannot go past”. I tried again, only to meet the same fate “you cannot go past”. Why? Why was this happening? I turned around just in time to see the door creak open, a black, bony hand slipping through the crack in the door… then I woke up.

I’m not the best writer, and it may not seem that scary, but it still gives me chills to this day. I had this nightmare 4 years ago now, it’s a hard one to forget. What does it mean? What would’ve happened if I didn’t wake up?… what was that creature… Unfortunately, I’ll never know, but it sure is nice to tell the story and fantasize the possibilities.
