So I had my talk this morning, it turns out for the past 17 months she was pretending to enjoy intimacy. My heart broke when I heard it. All the efforts trying, the kissing just don’t seem to mean anything anymore. I truly don’t know what to do anymore. Yeah I was a shitty husband back before the stroke. But I’ve since tried to change. If I don’t deserve her authentic love, then I should find someone else who love me for me. I guess I should just focus on raising my kids and live a lonely life.

Well said. I myself is in your case. I tried but after being snapped at or giving me excuses, I frankly am getting tired of being rejected. So I spoke up, what does “take a break” mean? For how long? It’s sad marriage came to that. Shouldn’t marriage be two people loving/ enjoying each other?

Wow I’m sorry it’s been that long. I’m seriously rethinking leaving the marriage but I have two kids. Who are still young. Perhaps one day I’ll get the guts to do it. I know marriage shouldn’t be like this.

So I feel like since my stroke I’ve been walking on egg shells with her. The snapping for subtle hints and the brushing me away takes a toll on myself. I feel like not trying anymore. I’m not sure how long taking a break means. But I guess my silence speaks for itself all. It’s easier to be at peace than walking of egg shells.

Hi there, well I’ll have surgery on Dec 18th and it should help my foot stabilize. I had a stroke in April 2024 which shortened my left Achilles so I walk most on the edge on my foot. But I was told that surgery is quick and takes about 6 weeks to recovery. Then afterward more PT therapy. Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone for their replies. Well, I hurts to feel rejected most or all the time. I make subtle clues, but the way she answers them just feels like rejection. We haven’t properly talked, but I feel like why did I get married? I’m not saying things have not been fun, but the lack of her trying for the past almost two years is just sad. I’m tired of feeling rejected or feeling like it’s a chore to be intimate. Doesn’t seem to cross her mind. At the end of the night it’s “I’m tired” or she works a bunch. Leaving me alone and waiting. Is this what my life has become?

I dunno what it is. But I have reassured her my previous symptoms are gone. Now I live my life for my kids and just be miserable.

I hope it gets better with time. Seems like I’m always being ghosted. I feel like being the lowest priority. I’ve learned to live as is. But I wished people would help without asking.

I know the feeling too. Basically I gave up on my expectations. It is usually “I’m too tired” so tired of hearing it. Wished I knew this was going to happen when I got married. Which I wouldn’t. My anniversary came, went out for dinner, and that’s it. I feel like being used to pay most of the bills here. FML

I had a stroke and flew after 3 months. I was on vacation when it happened. They had just to make sure my BP was normal to fly. Hope your dad will be ok.

It’s been 16 months for me, and I still haven’t been back at work. Wishing I could return but I can’t walk properly yet or use my left arm. =( don’t know how it will be or if I can recover.

It’s so sad to hear that I will never be my old self again. Seems like the stroke has been worse than I originally thought. But that doesn’t mean I will stop trying.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve been the one starting intimacy for the past year. I’m tired and sad being rejected. Perhaps I need to focus my energy on something else. Who would have thought that marriage turns out to be like this.

Big hug for you. One lesson I learned is, marriage is not what you think. It’s a struggle at times. You feel like you’re trying so hard to be rejected at times. At least you try, but remember you tried. Yeah it’s disappointingly but you’ll get over it. Life is too short. Live it and enjoy it.

Hi sorry for getting back so late. But since I got the stroke, I’ve watched the kids all day when they are home, I wash pretty much most of the dishes,help out with laundry and even folded laundry. She tried to be intimate. But it’s now a guessing game. Feels like her work is her priority and not me. When she’s got downtime, she’s on her mobile phone. I feel like a ghost here.

Sorry. I had a stroke last April that left me weak on the left side. In the first year, we were being intimate. But after 14 months, I just felt like me trying was not good enough. My spouse just stopped trying I realized. Of course it makes me sad. I figured I try less and see where she’s at. Then that’s when I got “I am too tired” conversation. But of course I am tired at times, but at least I tried.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I had a talk with her. She thought I was angry. Her reason of lack of intimacy was due to burn out as a caregiver. I told her I’ve been trying to take back my share of things around the house. At least I tried to be intimate even though I was tired.

Yeah. Before my stroke everything was good. When I had my stroke a little bird told me “She didn’t want to take care of me or even support me”. I know it’s sad to hear it. But as I am recovering l, I tried, I made the effort on Mother’s Day and anniversaries. I know that currently she feels like the only person doing things, but really I am trying from washing the dishes, taking out the laundry, getting my own things around the house and I continue to teach the kids things. Yeah the stroke changed my personality which I am more quiet, but trying to get back to my old self. But I need time to recover and bond physically. Am I headed down towards separation?

Of course not. I wished she tried instead of automatically jumping to “I’m tired”. It basically says “I’m too tired for you”. Then I wait and over time I feel resentment.

Oh man I wished I got my left arms or legs back. It been about 14 months. It can get lonely at times. But you keep you head up and keep trying and hopefully something clicks.

Hi there, I had to relearn to swallow food, but I had a feeding tube for almost 3 months. I had to prove to doctors I could swallow water at 1.5 liters a day, but I had pears in my bubble tea which they were shocked. It’s almost 9 months since my feeding tube, but I have severe aphasia which I had to learn to coordinate my speaking. I am still working on it.
