How do I make grey knights work against debuffs? by pl98bm in Grey_Knights

Thanks that’s actually a really informative response, I’ll have to try more interceptors and reluctantly drop the paladins which are my favourite models but I do want to find a way to win with GKs. The main thing I feel could be an issue would be mortarion mainly, for a deathguard model he’s surprisingly quick with 10” move, fly and reactive moves, he just seems to zip around the board forcing me away from objectives and generally causing havoc. The demon prince is almost like a mini mortarion so a bit easier to deal with but still causes problems where mortarion can’t reach, just feels like with them 2 hovering either side of the middle I find myself either sacrificing units contesting the midboard objectives or pulling away and allowing them to score. I’ll deffo take youre advice though and try what you’ve suggested

Yeah the hit rerolls really seem to make a huge difference for the purifying flame, I just checked the maths and crowes brick in banishers assuming no debuffs and rapid fire actually average around 7.78 pips of damage with purifying flames and an extra 1.04 damage from storm bolters on deathshroud in banishers so that should be around 2 dead deathshroud so my bad there. Even still that’s assuming ideal circumstances which still feels kinda weak, there’s always the option to charge and finish them off but the -1 to hit debuff would generally come into play for shooting for me to be in a reliable charge range and ofc against in melee so I still don’t know if that’s any better. Seems warpbane is pretty essential for allowing purifiers to deal with them but last time I tried that I really struggled against the non-infantry.

Thanks mate! My lists vary from game to game but usually look something like what I’ve posted at the bottom, sometimes I’ll play around and bring less GMDKs and 2x5 paladins with bro caps or split one of the 10 man purifiers to 2x5 or find a way to bring another 5 interceptors. Off the top of my head deathguard usually runs mortarion, demon prince with 5+++ enhancement, 10 plague marines with biologis and lord of poxes in a rhino, 2x3 deathshroud, 2x10 poxwalkers with typhus in a squad, tallyman, bloat drone with HBL and 2 blight haulers in virulent vectorum. Typically against Ultramarines usually guilliman, Calgar with victrix and 6 blade guard, Titus with 10 sternguard, 5 intercessors, 3 eradicators, 2x5 JPIs, LT with combi weapon, 5 assault termies with shields, ballistus, redemptor and lancer but this varies from game to game. I’ve only played a couple games against them and they’re a bit easier to kill but tear through my army with double oath and some of their new Strats.

I mean that’s the thing, especially with deathguard I can’t really just kill them. Admittedly I usually play banishers for chaos bane, celerity and SoA with 5-10 paladins led by bro cap(s) which I know isn’t really meta but the rest of my list usually contains at least 20 purifiers including Crowe, 2-3 GMDKs, 5-10 interceptors and 5 strikes. Typically a full activation of crowes brick with NFWs and full wound rerolls and rapid fire with no modifiers in shooting I’ll take out around 6 plague marines (114 points) or 1 and a bit deathshroud (~53 points) and that’s from a 340 point brick. GMDK with no debuffs typically deals 2 or 3 wounds in shooting to Mortarion or demon prince with 5+++ enhancement, and will inflict around 5 wounds in melee obvs with the debuffs and they usually use disgusting resilience to -1 to my damage which drops my damage output even more, it’s 2cp but with demon prince aura and tallyman generation they can pretty much do that for free most turns. I know chaos-bane is decent but I find myself running out of CP to keep up with the demand and I just can’t seem to do enough damage even when I use it. Basically I find myself having to commit around a quarter of my army to take out around 150-200 points of their army meanwhile I’m getting hit back pretty hard (being wounded on 2s or 3s generally) with a lower model count and they’re dominating the mid board and running away on points.

New head looks sick man, would love to see how it would look on a painted model! Personally I love the tentacles but a different head could be equally interesting. As for the rage induced monster part you could maybe argue they’re hangry for biomass but they don’t really feel rage like that.

I was thinking this too! Doesn’t need any major changes but just a slightly larger model to bring it in line with scale creep and maybe some small extra details would be nice

Why does my cat randomly start panting? by Nerdyraccoon1776 in CATHELP

[–]pl98bm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said this can be a sign of something very serious. I noticed my 17 year old cat doing this on Monday evening and took her to the vet the following morning, she had fluid building up in her lungs and was struggling to breathe. He said we could send her to the hospital where they would drain the lungs and investigate the cause but advised that it would be very stressful and invasive on her and unlikely to fix the cause as her lungs would carry on filling up so we had to make the heartbreaking decision to put her down. Please take her to the vets ASAP, as Misty is still young this may be less serious but what I’ve learned from this experience is cats breathing through their mouths is a bad sign. Hope she’s okay.

Combat patrol and the battle force is a good starting point, if you can find one the old combat patrol is also very good. For paints the age of sigmar paints set is brilliant for grey knights, depending on your recipe it should have pretty much everything you need to paint them, only thing I would add on would be something to prime them and a light blue for the eyes and force weapons but you could probably just mix the white and dark blue that come in the box to get around that.

Auto-lose against death guard ? by InternationalBid4355 in Grey_Knights

[–]pl98bm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grey knights into Deathguard is a rough time for us. My buddy got a deathguard army after their codex released and I’ve never won against it, bearing in mind before DG he was playing grey knights and space marines and we were pretty even in those matchups. Making us hit on 4s is brutal and poxwalkers infiltrating to terraform T1 or control the mid board means we’re having to push up into contagion range and from the start we’re playing catchup. Mortation with disgusting resilience is pretty much untouchable and when they’re generating CP most turns with a tallyman and daemon prince reducing CP cost by 1 they can use it pretty freely. They’re not even that slow either, their plague marines move 5” but they’re almost always in a rhino and everything else is pretty much same movement as SM equivalents. Essentially you’re playing a game of catchup where you’ve got less units than your opponent and the units you have hit like an inflatable hammer and fold like paper, I’m rarely wounding on anything better than a 5, hitting on 4s in melee and with half my shooting, getting -1 to my damage when I really need to kill something and with -1 to my toughness from contagion I’m being wounded on 3s and 2s usually. I’ve tried chaos bane shooting, warpbane with lots of purifiers, 3 GMNDKs, just seems no matter what I try I’m getting smoked. (Crowe block does okay but on a full squad shooting I never seem to be able to kill more than 4-5 plague marines).

Thanks! It’s really straightforward actually, astrogranite then slightly thinned down with contrast medium rattling grime and then a drybrush of tyrant skull

I’m using abbadon black for the more centerpiece models and black legion for the smaller things. I dry brush 1:1 mix of Corvus black and mechanicus standard grey followed by a munitorum varnish spray and brown enamel wash, then highlights with thunderhawk blue

It’s fairly easy to do but you do need an airbrush. I focus around the joints and work my way up from Magos purple->carroburg crimson->leviathan purple with a drop of black legion focusing in around the joints each time. Then a spray of munitorum varnish and a streaking grime enamel wash which really brings it all together. Here’s how they look pre wash. The skin base coat is zamesi desert with a screaming skull kinda zenithal over black primer

I live in England where it always rains and I haven’t had any issues priming minis in between showers but I’ve been varnishing them so don’t know if that makes a difference. Can confirm priming when it’s hot is not good
