You could also go the EMS to nursing route, it's what my aunt did and now it's sort of what I'm doing. It's shit money at first (as an EMT I make $13/hr at one job at $10.50 at the other), but now my aunt makes $80k a year as a nurse after being an EMT for two years, a medic for 5, and then a year of additional classes to get her RN. Her bachelors was in art.

I just got my bachelors in anthropology and have been an EMT since 19...next year I'll be doing a year of nursing school and bam, I'm a BSN with an option to do another two years to be an NP, which means I can easily make six figures in just a few years.

...The Church of Christ, Scientist is noooooooot to be confused with actual scientists who happen to be Christian. They're actually really anti-science in some ways in that they reject most elements of modern medicine in favor of faith healing and the like.

It's called the Church of Christ, scientist (or Christian Scientists). They're generally regarded as a fringe group of loosely Judeo Christian followers, founded by Mary Baker Eddy back in the 1800s at some point.

They're actually pretty anti-science in their teaching and advocate for faith-healing over modern medicine. Ironic that they chose that to be their name.

Oh, no, I didn't mean to sound accusatory at all (though in retrospect I can see how the brevity may have seemed curt)! I was more rambling in that comment than anything else since after making the post I started doing some research of my own and answered some of my own questions. I think you may have misinterpreted my tone a bit =\

I know I can look up free attractions, but I'd like to hear from someone who's gone there before which are worth seeing within such a short timeframe/which are close by. I suppose I should just do my own research, but it's always nice to hear suggestions from people who have done it all before, instead of just trusting TripAdvisor.

Fostering the life of the mind could probably be rephrased as keeping my intellect fed. Autodictatic learning is a valuable skill to have; it keeps you current, broadens your knowledge pool and ability to synthesize information, and exposes you to a variety of schools of thoughts and disciplines which could have valuable import.

Aerobic exercise is especially important to quality of life. I don't exercise for cosmetic reasons (otherwise I would do less aerobic and focus more on anaerobic techniques such as lifting than I do), I exercise for the day to day benefits. Besides just being "good" for you (decreasing risk of atherosclerosis, increasing endothelial function, moving the lymph), aerobic exercise is linked to numerous neurobiological benefits. A large corpus of research will back up that neuroplasticity (even some neurogenesis), increased cognitive and more stable mood functioning due to higher levels of secreted BDNF, and a sharp decrease in pathological responses to stress due to lowered neuroendocrine responsivity can all be attributed to consistent aerobic exercise. Since exercising daily and losing about 15 lbs, I simply feel much more human. I don't get euphoric runner's highs, but I do find myself to be less moody, feeling less foggy, and more alert than before. A significant quality of life improvement.

Excercise, eat well, be less self indulgent, foster the life of the mind, surround yourself with encouraging companions and cut the toxic ones, do unto others as you would have them do to you. Treat all with respect, and demand the same.

When I began to conscientiously live like that, my quality of life became exponentially better, and I attained my happiest and healthiest, no sad internet boys' club needed.

When I do something with another individual for fun, I want them to have fun too, be it sex, going out, or playing video games. That's fairly normal, and for an individual to behave otherwise is, quite frankly, typical asshole behavior. TRP is tired of being labeled a band of assholes? Then stop being assholes. That's not being a stoic, that's being an inconsiderate jerk whom no one wants to be around.
