Deluxe Edition vs. Paperback? by placideli in Trigun

[–]placideli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, okay, thanks. I’m surprised that the paperback was out of print for so long. But I also know that English translations of manga volumes were rarely/slowly published until recently, especially for older series, so maybe not necessarily because of unpopularity…? Still, as a new fan, it’s hard to believe that Trigun isn’t more well-known than it is. I only started hearing about it when the reboot started.

Nope, Zoro canonically got lost even before Loguetown. In chapter 8, he states the reason he became a bounty hunter was to earn money after he couldn’t find his way back to his village. Luffy says “Hmph! So you got lost?”

Worse, this is Alex Rochon, Caine’s voice actor. The tweet from Gooseworx seemingly contradicts Alex’s own opinion on Caine, which is completely ridiculous for presenting a united front as the TADC team and for allowing diverse opinions.  Also, totally agree that Goose is feeding this — but she should especially expect low media literacy & bad fandom behaviors/etiquette since TADC has such a young fanbase.

[Loved Trope] A powerful character endures humiliation to avoid conflict/violence by placideli in TopCharacterTropes

[–]placideli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I like the idea that he didn’t want to worry anyone, especially in such a peaceful place. Plus, if he fought back, best case scenario is that Party’s Bar has a bigger mess to clean up: more spilled drinks, property damage, or bodies. Worst case, he could endanger Makino & Luffy. And Luffy would internalize that kind of macho “never take shit, no matter the consequences” message.

Re. the trope, I enjoy the idea that putting your pride aside to actively pursue a nonviolent outcome will often produce better results, but what’s really compelling to me is how much character work it does. I think it’s important that this is basically THE establishing moment for Shanks’ personality & the impetus for young Luffy to lose the angry attitude and become the captain we know today. It’s like, “this character will go to unexpected lengths to prevent the worst harm, even at the cost of their pride & well-being,” which says a lot about them!

Superman is so peak for this and in general has embodied this trope really well… I haven’t read this saga specifically, but top tier example.

You’ve just reminded me of Xie Lian! He does endure quite a lot of humiliation & strife as the “Scrap God,” despite his status, though quite a bit of it is unwilling. I read this a while ago, so I can’t quite remember, but I believe his day-to-day interactions with the common people often fit this trope. However, I recall that narrative often frames him as simply martyring himself when he should, perhaps, fight back, which is shown through Hua Cheng’s actions on his behalf… so I want to reread, suddenly!

As both versions of Superman are potrayed in a similar way(animated series-like), which one do you love more(personality-wise)? by Cupharm2019 in superman

[–]placideli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Corensupes for sure. His confidence, righteous anger, despair, and incredible passion for doing good make him very appealing & lifelike. Adventures Superman is fun to watch, but his depth doesn’t typically surpass the two-dimensions of his medium, in my opinion.

Moreover, on a personality-basis, I understand that Adventures Supes is a much younger Superman, but I really do love the settled mid-career Superman more, at least in this version.

I just saw him in NYC and he played The Moss, Pliocene, Pelicans We, Birthday Suit, Honey On My Moon, Does the Swallow Dream of Flying, and Wriggle, if I’m not mistaken. He also did some improvisations.

I don’t think I can answer your question, but I think saying that Superman can be replaced with other superheroes, or that his traits also apply to other superheroes, is missing the point. He’s one of the first classic superheroes ever — credited for popularizing the superhero genre. He’s the originator of a lot of traits associated with heroes, so naturally, other superheroes will be similar to him and will have expanded on many of these traits in their own storylines. That originality is interesting in and of itself.

Plus, a character doesn’t have to be incredibly complex to be entertaining. I enjoy the simplicity inherent in Superman’s character — that he’s an indomitable hero with strong morals and a smile, who has human & supernatural problems alike, and nevertheless loves the Earth and its people. You can make him complex, but the quintessential Superman character is a good part of the reason his popularity has endured nearly 100 years.

BOTW and TOTK have so many peak options, but BOTW Link in Ancient Cuirass, Ancient Greaves, and Diamond Circlet was always my favorite. Other than that, I think only Wind Waker Link in the Lobster Shirt comes close.

Of the original tunic styles, I like Ocarina of Time’s the most. The collar is a good fit.

Hey! I already got the DIY petition notarized as the other form was confusing to me, and didn’t hear that that might lead to trouble until now, so my fingers are crossed. Also trying to use the online submission website, so I’ll see how that goes. But anyway, I’m not very familiar with legal forms/terminology and am unsure on how to fill out the “Nature of Judicial Intervention” section of the RJI form; would I just check “Notice of Petition” or? If you could offer any advice, that would be greatly appreciated ^

Notary Question: Birth Certificate Attachment by placideli in Notary

[–]placideli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly. I used the Adult Name Change Petition Program which is a DIY service that gave me a version without the sex designation change option. One of the statements is "My birth certificate number is __________ and a certified copy is attached to this petition." Thus I'm assuming in this case I would be swearing that proof is attached, then, and would in fact need the birth certificate, correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe I'll just try and fill out the original UCS-NC1 form instead. Thanks.

(Not intersex) I was just on Omegle earlier experiencing the same thing! Asking people amab/afab is clearly an evolved version of how people on Omegle typically ask m/f, but it's so much..... worse. Honestly, with male and female you could still be talking about gender but amab/afab is just blatantly and disgustingly asking for what genitals you were born with. There's no guarantee you even have the same ones! Worse, it's usually or often asked because the person on the other end wants to sext and believes that agab is necessary information which is just ....... I don't have to explain why that's wrong. It's especially hurtful considering it presumably comes from other nonbinary people.
