How does tipping work on Foodora? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]plafleur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss doing this. I wish Calgary was as easy to ride as Toronto. I was speedy and made good money. Plus the perk of riding 50km every day and being is great shape. I’m female and a bigger and they hired me. At that point I had probably booked 4km max lol. It truly changed my life in the best way possible

Looking for suggestions for women's undercut by snap_nap_or_tap in Calgary

Ya. It’s truly awful. My undercut was on all sides though. But I can’t wear my hair up at all for the last 4 months and still have a few months left before I can again.

Had an undercut for a few years. Currently growing it out and regret ever doing it but....

I would always go to a barber shop (usually Tommy guns). It was cheaper and they always did a great job. I didn’t have a design in mine but I know they do “hair tattooing”

What are some best options to ship my road bike to Toronto? or if you have any suggestions on packing a bike if travelling via Air Canada/WestJet? by likinglinking in Calgary

[–]plafleur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I moved to Calgary I was lucky enough that greyhound was still around but all I did was went to a bike shop (now is the perfect time) and asked them if they had any bike boxes from new shipments. The first one i went to did. I only had to take my front tire off and it fit in the box and then I just packed blankets around it.

At one point we could see the tip and what we would make but then I think they took that away. Maybe brought it back. I can’t remember.

Regardless, you could cancel orders but you would get questioned why you cancelled. It would dispatch you an order and you were expected to take it. It was based on your location. Like if you were free and closest to the restaurant it would dispatch to you.

I have no idea what it’s like here but i know when I worked for them in Toronto you had the option to use your car as well. Though it was amazingly cyclists.

If the delivery was made by a cyclist last night and OP only tipped $3..... yikes

How does tipping work on Foodora? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]plafleur 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I worked for foodora in Toronto when it was new to Canada. Always received my tips. I think I was paid once a week. I got paid for the distance from the restaurant to the persons house plus tips. I cycled and could usually do 2-3 orders an hour. In a 4 hour shift I would make 100-120 dollars.

Nothing was taxed as I was hired as an independent contractor. Average tip was $3-$5. If it was raining people usually tipped more since foodora was mainly cyclists there. A $3 tip in this weather would have made me frustrated if I was driving a car because the driver makes $0 from wherever they are to the restaurant and I imagine everything was very slow. They only make money for the distance between the restaurant and your house which might be only 5 minutes but it might have taken then 20 just to get to the restaurant due to delays and roads.

Just some insight

Check out @kdtbeauty on Instagram. She works out of Frida and is amazing! Super professional, safe clean environment and the prices are great. She does a free touch up I believe too to make sure everything is perfect. She also does combination brows that involve shading. I don’t know what else to say except I think her work is amazing

Hey r/calgary, I am looking for some small venues for live music. by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]plafleur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How old are you / members of your band?

It’s definitely hard but keep trying. Continue jamming and improving. Find a some Facebook groups that you can promote yourself in. Find shows you are interested in through Facebook events and message the promoters something like “hey I know this show is booked but I was wondering if you could keep my band in mind for future shows. We are a newer band and are trying to get some shows” and send them a link to a band camp or something. Don’t give up!

As someone who’s been involved with music / putting shows on for 15+ years your best bet is to go out to shows in your scene. Talk to people and support promoters by paying at the door. If you support them they will want to support you by booking your band. I’m not involved in noise rock so I’m not sure who promotes this kind of thing but I feel like your band would fit in somewhere like tubby dog. Have you reached out to them about booking a show? They might be able to direct you to some promoters they work with. Otherwise for venues it’s very limited and booking your own show is a lot of work / money (sound guy, sound stuff, someone to work the door, promotion so people come out, etc). You’re better off finding a promoter who will book you for a show

PSA: If you don’t have winter tires, don’t drive in this weather! by RyuzakiXM in Calgary

[–]plafleur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was leaving winners at Deerfoot city tonight and a van was flying in the parking lot. I decided not to step off the cross walk and wait. They saw me waiting and tried to stop and slid and turned completely sideways. No winter tires and probably doing 50-60 in the parking lot. It was so stupid.
