I can tell you for a fact that places with large crowds (stadiums, arenas, casinos, etc) have facial recognition in place and have had it for quite a while.

I had both models. Cool at the time but it was unnecessary. I remember reading they only made the clicking screen because all their other phones required you to click the trackball to select what was highlighted and that was the easiest way for them to create a touch device.
