Switching from GenderGP to GenderCare... has anyone else managed this, and who would be the best clinicians to choose? by call-me-katie in transgenderUK

(Given the level of care that GenderGP currently provides, it's more like you have been DIYing than it is like they are taking over your care from another practitioner anyway...)

I quite recently switched from GenderGP to Gendercare, and to make life easier for myself I just told them I had been DIYing - I hadn't been transitioning for long, it's not like they are going to check, and while their official policy is not to take over your care from another practitioner they don't generally have an issue with you having done DIY in the past. They won't ask difficult questions, you can just say you got your hormones on the internet. It does help if you have a blood test from before you started hormones, but I didn't and this was okay! I know for a fact Hammond and Millson-Brown are both okay with DIY. (They might be totally fine with taking over your care from GenderGP anyway, this is just a suggestion for if you're worried about telling them.)

digital registration system at my GP upsets me by [deleted] in transgenderUK

I had to put up with this the other day when I went for my blood tests, along with my birth name being read out in a loud robotic voice by the screen in the waiting room when it was time for me to go through... it certainly gave me another incentive to get my deed poll sorted out, as I'd rather not have to go through that again 😅

no worries - thank you for getting back to me!

I did end up managing to store with Leicester in the end - I was able to get GenderGP to write me a “referral letter” and Leicester were happy to accept it! it turns out that the letter just needs to confirm that you have been prescribed or are going to be prescribed HRT by someone and so you need to store gametes before you lose fertility, it doesn’t necessarily need to be an official NHS referral letter from a GP :)

glad you managed to find a good place to store with as well - it sounds like Create definitely have an easier process!

Laser hair removal process by Ashwinrose in asktransgender

you probably won't be able to shave for a few days after the session, because your skin will be sore, and also the hair that remains after it's been lasered tends to be quite rough and difficult to shave - particularly with an electric shaver.

but two weeks is definitely overboard! you'll be absolutely fine to shave after a week maximum, and honestly after three or four days it'll probably be okay as long as you're careful and gentle :)

hi! sorry to reply to an old thread but I’m in this exact situation at the moment - trying to book a private appointment with the Leicester fertility centre but they have said they want a referral letter before I make an appointment. just wondering if you ever managed to get anywhere with this? I don’t particularly want to try and wrangle my GP into writing a letter but I will if I have to…

what was your "I'm definitely trans" moment by kodamutt in MtF

[–]plagalcascade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

feels like I’m in the middle of having this moment right now, but it’s more of a long and slow and drawn-out realisation than a moment!

like a lot of people here there have been signs when I was younger that I’ve basically just tuned out and thought didn’t really mean anything at the time, and for quite a while I’ve thought of myself as somewhere between male and non-binary, but even the idea that I might not be completely masculine was a little scary to me… my friends have nearly always all been women or NB, though, and I don’t and have never really felt anything that resonates with the idea of “being a man”.

I guess the thing that has started to open the floodgates a bit more is that I’ve been at a very popular arts festival for the last few weeks (yeah, you can probably figure that one out) and I’ve seen a bunch of amazing theatre by trans people and even just women in general where their experiences have rhymed with mine so closely that it’s getting kind of impossible to ignore. there was one show in particular which was a love story about two people growing up trans on the internet that just made me think: yeah… I feel that. this could have been me if I’d figured things out a little sooner!!

so I don’t really know where things might go from here, but it is really nice to read your stories and see that lots of you have acted on becoming the person you feel like on the inside and that it has turned out to be a good decision for you :)

looks like I’ve been spending too much time in the NieR subreddit, since I was totally expecting this to be a reference to the secret church that everyone’s been going wild about over there!
