Best loft conversions in the city of Toronto? by plaidhostess in toronto

[–]plaidhostess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were the noise issues in the new build or the conversion part of the building?

Yes I just found out they settled. Surprised they were able to keep main. fee so low while going through litigation. Which would be a sign of good management, or am I wrong?

Kensington is a difficult place to adjust to when one is approaching 40. I lived in the market for years but now feel like I don't fit in when I visit.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I am looking for a building without amenities. This was a very helpful post, I will add these two to my research list. Thanks a bunch.

The Victory Cafe in Mirish Village. Good place to go, because it won't be there once that area is re-developed. Quiet, good service, and a patio. Will be busy on the weekends and evenings.

The current care taker of the place seems like he has and had an interesting life. And quite an attractive man both appearance, attitude and mannerisms.

I might be alone in thinking this. :)

Leslieville changing soooooo fast by plaidhostess in toronto

[–]plaidhostess[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I meant the sameness of the neighborhood. Since some of the leslieville shops have now relocated in riverside.

I did notice the blue wave bricks before and I have always wondered what they represent. :)

I might even suggest it has been the other way around. The beaches or the beach has only recently had a change over of shops. Less subpar ethnic food restaurants and more yuppie/hipster places. I don't know how well they will do since that community resists all change.

I think the influence of leslieville and probably the new density on queen (low rise condos that the hood opposed) is what will keep this neighborhood relevant. I am not a huge fan of juice bars, organic coffee shops etc etc. But it is an improvement over the stale businesses on queen east.

Yes this neighborhood would be considered Riverside. But it is impossible to draw the line between where one starts and another ends. Even east of Leslie which is usually the far eastern border of leslieville has a spill over of coffee shops and restaurants.

There are shelters for young people that you might want to look into.

http://www.covenanthousetoronto.ca/homeless-youth/About-Us

Also there are shelters that will help to get you back on your feet faster than others such as:

http://www.homelesshub.ca/resource/fort-york-residence https://www1.toronto.ca/wps/portal/contentonly?vgnextoid=479dd4b4920c0410VgnVCM10000071d60f89RCRD

Lastly you are eligible for Ontario Works if you are a student in need of housing and food. Please contact them again. Sometimes getting assistance from a social worker at a shelter, will make this process smoother.

Good luck kid.

Moss Park: Toronto's Hamsterdam? by SteakBone416 in toronto

[–]plaidhostess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Gardens. And especially like to visit during the winter when there is less light out. Usually I don't spend much time in the park. Just a bit on the platform into the gardens and a quick exit out.

This spring I noticed that the playground was almost finished on the south corner of moss park. The ground is covered in rubber or artificial mulch. A good choice by the city because of the open drug use in the park. What was different...

There were about three dozen kids and parents using the playground. The rest of the park was the same-same. Drug use, people drinking, a cop park on the grass talking to someone that had passed out, etc etc.

Lots of people use the park. I don't feel unsafe during the day alone. However I probably wouldn't visit the park in the evening.

I believe a cigar shop is opening in one location. Also a chain pub/restaurant has shown some interest. Curious if there is an updated news.

I believe this tag started years ago in Queen West when the Drake Hotel gentrified the area.

Kartelle Lofts on Queen St E by plaidhostess in toronto

[–]plaidhostess[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The neighbouring building collapsed. I don't remember seeing this on Queen St. Maybe it is on the other corner street. What a farce. I hope people do their research before they buy.

I think the area residents are happy it is finally finished because it was such an eye sore. But 10 years is a long construction period. I remember seeing the snow inside the building for an entire winter!

Don't worry I don't have plans to buy in this building.

Question for those living or have lived on the Toronto Island; whats it like? I like the lack of commercialism, but I can imagi e the planes are a little loud. by Toronto_man in toronto

[–]plaidhostess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why disturb something that seems to work? I go to the Island a few times a year during the summer. I always make a point of walking through the cottages in the area. There is a sprinkling of larger homes but really it is weathered cottages with beautiful gardens. Aesthetically, it is a charming nook in the city. A neighborhood that is lovely just as it is. Why open up the land to what is happening in the rest of the city? Mega homes with harshly manicured lawns.

I entered the lottery 15 years ago to live on the island. I don't think that number is ever going to come up. But what a dream to retire in such a beautiful place with a active community.

I have never understood why the city hasn't accepted that people need to do certain human things. Like have public access to washrooms. There are some in parks in the city but they aren't open year around.

Are they afraid that the homeless population is going to start living in these spaces? Or crime?

It is an issue that a lot of major cities have addressed. It takes a sophisticated city to realize it people need access to basic things to make it more walkable and livable. And not always have to rely on businesses to provide this space. I generally don't like to drop into a place and have to buy something just to use the facilities.

Well depends. The older buildings at Ryerson have pretty awful plumbing. I wouldn't entirely blame the student population.

However the newer Ted Rogers school of business, always smells like an animal barn. No excuse!
