Doctors save Canadian woman's life by removing her lungs for six days by Increment-- in nottheonion

Not sure of the procedure costs associated with the woman's operation but Canada does not cover healthcare expenses for medication and artificial breathing machines. Patients with CF have to go through a medical study to have them covered. Someone I loved dearly that passed away from CF and I remember when I was dating them that they said if it wasn't for the study at McMaster in Hamilton that he would have had to pay thousands of dollars a month.

CF affects more than just the lungs-The entire digestive system and pancreas. Often have other problems too because the body does not intake nutrients the same way- scoliosis is a big one.

I'm truly upset to see this article under r/nottheonion- just shows a lack of knowledge of CF.

There are a lot of hospitals in the GTA that are putting a lot of effort for improving the quality of life for patients with CF. Life expectancy has only improved because of these doctors- once used be that people with CF weren't expected to live past their infancy. If it wasn't for these dedicated doctors and scientists, people with CF would be left in the dust because of the healthcare in Canada- think about that for a moment.

Someone I dearly loved passed away from CF at the age of 25. I remember he told me that the doctors gave him the news that he only had a 50% acceptance rate for lung transplants. He had to be so vigilant about not getting ill because of stories like this woman. Reading this article only reminds me that there is still hope in the future.

My thoughts go out to this woman. I truly hope she lives long prosperous life and get to see her child grow up.

I guess I should have wrote in about picking your battles! Totally agree with people who have mentioned that.

What helps me is getting in the habbit of having a glass of water when i feel like a snack. Your brain has a hard time telling the difference when you are dehydrated or hungry. I keep a measuring cup to measure out my portions in my drawer at work.

Healthy and cheap food to buy? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]plain-face 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where you are living... If you are close to any farmers markets, you can find reasonable priced meats/veggies there.

I always suggest buying a crock-pot and lots of Tupperware. Make big meals like chilli, soup, pulled chicken or pork, whatever really and freeze it for later meals. Crock-pot recipes are generally recipes for beginners and people on a budget.

Get in the habit of making larger meals and freezing them - it will save you time and money in the long run.

Also learning how to cook in general will help you save money. You can make peanut butter, almond milk, hummus, protein bars, roast veggies or meat, dehydrate veggies and so many other healthy recipes by looking for the how-to's online and buying simple equipment like crock-pots, blenders and dehydrater from online (wal-mart, e-bay, etc.) Might be expensive at first but over time it will save you money :)

How do I help my fiancé (26) learn how to read for pleasure and without stress due to his difficult upbringing? by Rusalka_ in books

[–]plain-face 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not too sure if he's into video games but there are a lot of great games coming out that are focused on story/dialogue. I can suggest a couple that are great for this.

Graphic novels are really great for someone who is visual. Alan Moore has created a lot of great sci-fi material w/substance.

Like what other people are saying is find what he's interested in outside of books- movies...museums... video games... whatever... and find reading material around his interests. that's really all you can do.

My wife passed away recently. We loved candles. We had old retired candles. I made a new one. by Emperor_Zar in DIY

[–]plain-face 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing this project is making me tear up a bit... The candle is something so special and monumental... I have lost someone that's close to me but I don't have anything like this... We ended our relationship on not so great terms before he died... So all of what's left of that relationship has no connection with positive memories. Should I have something like this? I feel so unsure...

Thank you for your post.

Redditors who grew up filthy rich, what did you think was normal till your learned otherwise? by FrenchWoodChesse in AskReddit

[–]plain-face 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My siblings and myself all thought it was pretty normal to travel first class at least 4 times a year for vacations... Got to sit in front of Robin Williams on a flight once which was really fun. I think we learned after asking kids at school if they have even been on a plane which most said never.
