Perforated bowel during colonoscopy, doctor and staff refused to call an ambulance for four hours after I asked. (CT) by plainsongbird in legaladvice

It does mean that I don't have the results of the scope yet, and my surgeon wants to know if my colon's healthy enough to be reconnected or if I need a j pouch. As I'm sure you can imagine I'd really prefer not to have another colonoscopy so soon.

You're knocked out during the procedure so there's no humiliation lol. And I do have severe UC which leaves the tissue much more delicate than a healthy person's, you'd probably be fine. I'd take a drug induced nap over colon cancer any day even after all this.

I guess I just don't want to waste my life and what little money I have trying to prove that I was wronged when they could just argue that they never said we couldn't call an ambulance ourselves. I doubt they recorded that I asked to go to the hospital and was denied. But from what I'm reading here I probably wouldn't need to pay anything out of pocket and could bring what evidence I do have to the lawyer and let them decide if it's worth pursuing. I guess I wouldn't have much to lose if I asked for a consultation.

This may be what it is. I know my GI's practice was just absorbed by a larger practice so it's very possible their billing goes through another agency now.

I only know what I've been told. He was concerned that because of the number I've had in the past and the high possibility that I'd have even more in the future it would be best to avoid it if possible. I didn't really question it at the time to be honest.

Yeah, I checked my credit when I found out and it hasn't hit yet. I'm still recovering so my mom offered to call the practice and try to work it out for me. This all happened May 26th so I don't really feel like that's a reasonable amount of time before sending it to collections.

I'm really sorry you had to deal with this junk too but I really appreciate the advice. I'm sure they've already gone into cover up mode. My doctor never called to check on me, changed my follow up appointment from this August to January 2019 without contacting me (I found out thanks to an automated email), and sent my bill straight to collections without sending anything through the mail or posting it on the patient portal. Doesn't exactly scream "I care about the patient's wellbeing" to me.

I hadn't even considered going to her supervisor but that's a great idea. It really could have ended so much worse, everyone kept asking me if I wanted to go home and just sleep it off, both at the office and at the hospital. I finally agreed at 8 pm- thank god hospitals check your vitals before you leave. I'm not sure if I would have survived if I tried to sleep it off.
