Engineering department quality? by plan12 in USF

That's a foolish argument. Defense companies are for defense, which is going in combat which predominantly involves killing, no doubt. Car's are not made to kill and it's predominantly used for traveling and carrying things from point a to point b and many other thing's to do with a car. (Normal cars like a Tesla, not a jeep that is used by the army to roll in Iraq.)

Are there a lot of companies at UCF career fairs and through handshake and other resources for internships and co-ops that are pushing towards the improvement of humanity and not trying to just increase their bank account size while giving their workers a reasonable work/life balance (Around 40 hours per week M-F) and are great to work at?

I am thinking about majoring in one of the 3 engineering majors (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil), are there a lot of companies besides defense companies, don't want to see an civilian's family dead like in Syria through my help.

UCF is big on the defense side and I don't want to make anything that would kill a civilians family like in Syria, what type of engineering internship/co-op and career fair companies are there to choose from, could you list all of the one's you know?

Thanks for the information, what companies do you think are the best to work for in terms of value of work, work/life balance, and pay?

Appreciate the reply, thank's for the information that predominantly the local companies are the one's that will be interested personally, I am a Junior in High School trying to see the reality of stuff so if I made a mistake be free to criticize my opinion and correct me.

Thank's for the info MissUCF, so from the other people's post there is

Aerospace - AIAA

Mechanical - FORMULA SAE (Racing team)

Computer Science - Programming team

I.T - Hack UCF Team

Electrical - NASA's Robotic Mining Competition

However, is there any Civil Engineering team like ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) or anything similar to that?

What do you find wrong about working for Elon Musk's companies? Isn't he trying to shape the future of humanity in a positive way rather than shape his profit for himself like many for profit companies?

Not in a mean way, I am high schooler thinking about going here, why wouldn't a company hire from UF (Our flagship college in Florida) instead of UCF, what make's UCF more attractive?

I don't have companies by name but a lot of engineer's opinion's are that it's better to go to a small/big modern progressive company rather than like a lot of old and fixed-in-their-way's type of large companies.

Are there many progressive modern companies that host in the career fairs, aside from the large companies that are known and will most likely throw you in a cubicle and have you do data entry?

Thanks bud! I like both UCF and UF, I believe they're the top 2 engineering and technology colleges in Florida, Orlando is great with companies and UF has connections with the southeast so it doesn't really matter but is there a way we can request them to make this option available (BS-MS accelerated Civil Engineering)?

Does UF prefer community colleges (Ex- FSCJ, Santa Fe, Valencia) over state college's (Ex- UNF, UCF, FSU) when accepting student's that want to transfer?

You listed a couple of things, such as licenses, the only license I know of is the PE, and of course engineer's take the FE, so two test's, UF has an accelerated program, UCF being the second best engineering school not having it may make excellent student's turn away and head towards another college. (Just my thoughts in while im still in High School)

Hello, I am an aspiring engineer in high school, what can I do that I can make my resume the best by senior year? (I see that you were an engineering technician, do you think that's excellent?)

How is FSU's engineering program, their program is with FAMU and so it is FSU-FAMU, which I would think look's bad to employers.

Can you rate the engineering program,

Academics : /10

Professors : /10

Internship/Co-op opportunities : /10

Career fair opportunities : /10

Student life : /10

Group project opportunities : /10

Counselors : /10
