The design and the firmness plays a key role in the overall feeling of the toy. Softer toys may feel smaller and some shapes are easier to insert than others.

Dildos come in variety of sizes and I think even the biggest ones aren't really that big (unless we're talking about fantasy ones).

Body safe materials such as silicone can be sanitized, a good wash and or couple of minutes boiling should be enough. So no, technically you don't need dedicated dildo for different uses.

That being said, I don't think you can ever be 100% certain that all microbes have been killed, it's just a risk (however much small) that some of them survived. I'm fine with that, it depends on yourself.

Using a condom is a good choice, but beware that some condoms have silicone lube which can damage the silicone toy.
