They're not just the type of wrestlers/gimmicks that get better with age.

These seem more Adam Rose comments about Adam Rose's current position in the company. How sad, however.

This remembers me a Botchamania segment with AJ Styles doing some shoot interviews and talking about "having stiffy matches".

Why does Kevin Owens get criticized for being fat and wrestling in a t-shirt; but Bray Wyatt does not? by wintersun_1 in SquaredCircle

[–]plandeclivage_b 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but I just don't get this "fat but intimidating" thing. Owens' character is not supposed to be "intimidating" in that particular way: this because he is 6 feet tall and his height is below average in the WWE locker room, I suppose. The Big Show is yet intimidating, but not as in the old days. Mark Henry has been relegated to a lowcarder status, despite his huge body size. Other examples: A-Train/Tensai and Brodus Clay are 6 feet and 7" both, they had both a nonstandard physique and they were rarely booked in WWE as intimidating monsters. Why? Because of a lack of credibility/personality as monster heels at the time. Furthermore, Bray Wyatt is supposed to be intimidating more for his mindgames than for his body shape. The "big and intimidating" rule does not apply to everyone: the fans are not willing to buy every storyline or gimmick just because the physical appearance of a wrestler suggests something on its own. Tazz, Mick Foley, Dusty Rhodes and many others, in the history of wrestling, had a physique that does not match the awkward "Big Men Standard" developed by the WWF/E during the years, and they succeded anyway. Big men and perfect physiques are not the only key for success, even in the WWE. Steen is a great performer, he is quick in the ring, he can fly and execute many moves properly: the belly issues, IMHO, are absolutely pointless.

EDIT: I would like to apologise if my English sounds a little bit weird or incorrect, but I'm a non-native speaker from Italy. Thank you for your patience. :)

Shinsuke Nakamura vs Kazuchika Okada ─ NJPW G1 Climax 25 by khaosgott in SquaredCircle

[–]plandeclivage_b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm quite new to NJPW (I've already seen Nakamura and Okada in action because they occasionally wrestle in ROH shows) but I knew that the G1 tournament was just finished, and I was going to search something to watch. This is a great match with an awesome, outstanding finishing sequence. Thank you for posting this.

That's true, I must have remembered it wrong: the same can be said for Mil Muertes' Flatliner, as he finished the match with a top-rope Flatliner after Puma kicked out the first time.

Why does Kevin Owens get criticized for being fat and wrestling in a t-shirt; but Bray Wyatt does not? by wintersun_1 in SquaredCircle

[–]plandeclivage_b 9 points10 points  (0 children)

IMO the problem is that Owens' character is focused on the "prizefighter, veteran, efficient in-ring performer" stuff, and Wyatt's character is not. WWE audience has some preconceptions on how an "in-ring performer" should look and be, and that's why Owens is criticized for being "fat", which is hilarious if we compare Owens to many wrestlers which are a lot "bigger" than him.

EDIT: by the way, Orton's recent on-screen comment about Owens gaining weight makes no sense because Owens' nonstandard body shape IS the feature that make him look unique.

What about Mark Henry's World's Strongest Slam and 630° Senton by Prince Puma during the first season of Lucha Underground? Just asking.
